Gestational sac, yolk sac but no embryo

Hi according to my lmp I should be 6+1.
I went for an early reassurance scan today as I had an ectopic pregnancy in June. They were able to see the gestational sac and yolk sac but embryo was not visible.
I've to back again in 2 weeks for another scan.
Has anyone had a scan this early and not been able to see anything? Need some reassurance!

Hi, I had a scan at 5+5 so only a couple of days earlier than you and saw the same. I was really worried as I'd seen a heartbeat at the same stage with my DD. I'm 14 weeks now though so it really was just too early.

Also, how long is your cycle?

Likely it will all be ok - at least with a GS and YS it’s not ectopic - good luck with your next scan

Hi, I've recently experienced similar - I went for a scan at what I thought would be 6+1. They could see gestational sac and yolk but no heartbeat and said I was measuring around 5 and a half weeks. Went back exactly two weeks later, baby had a strong heartbeat and measuring just over 8 weeks (so back where I expected). I was told it's normal not to see a lot at early scans, everything is so small it's really hard for them to see what's going on in there and everything is 'approximate'. If it wasn't for medical reasons like yours (and mine) I wouldn't chose to have early scans as it does seem to cause more anxiety and worry for people when it's all probably absolutely fine just a little too early yet.

I experienced the same thing, based on LMP I was 7 weeks but I had a scan which showed a gestational sac and yolk sac but no embryo and said I was measuring 5+2 weeks, I was devastated, but one week later I had another scan privately and there was a little embryo and a heart beat! Try and stay positive!

@SpringDream glad to hear that. It's amazing how things change so quick and within a week you were able to see something after just seeing a sac
