Heart defect + labour (hole in my heart) Anyone had similar?

Hi All,

I have a small hole in my heart which doesn’t affect my day to day live however being consultant led because of this. I’m seeing the consultant in a few weeks when I’ll be 16 weeks.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I don’t really know what to expect or prepare for! From my own research it seems induction is advised against due to the medicines and their link to the heart so I’m wondering if they’ll discuss birth options.

I really do not care either way, this is my first baby and all I care about is what will be safest for my baby and for me, hopefully that’s a decision the consultant can help me with.

Would love to hear from anyone else who may have a dodgy little heart and been/is pregnant!

Hi, I had 2 large ASDs in my heart had them closed a few years ago. I'm 30 weeks pregnant now and had my obstetrician consultant appointment when I was 22 weeks. Mine had a cardiac consultant there who did an echo. After this he told me that my heart looked fine and I had a choice whether to give birth naturally or opt for a section. I have a virtual appointment on Friday to discuss further - birth plan and I presume I'll have another probably 37 weeks. Mine where very informative and gave me loads of info to read and websites to look at. I'm still totally undecided. Hope all goes well at your appointment.

Thank you. Hope everything goes well at your appointment. My midwife mentioned to ask if I needed any aspirin during pregnancy and also to ask in my birth plan to be prescribed antibiotics. Might also be worth your raising this in yours as well. X
