Maternity Clothes

Hi, I was wondering where is best to get maternity clothes from? Mainly Jeans and Leggings as my normal ones are starting to get a bit tight 🙈

Also (may sound dim but this is my first baby) how do you choose your size, do you go by size pre pregnancy or is it different? Or does this depend where it's from?

Any recommendations would be fab 😁

@39weekswithno2 I've ordered some off of love leggings to try out. Thank you for the tip re tumble drying, I'll definitely avoid doing that!

What about maternity bras, where do people recommend for them?

What bra size are you?

Thirdlifecrisis · 15/11/2020 22:52

I've been getting my normal size and it's been fine (assuming you haven't put on lots of weight outside bump). Everything's been second hand off eBay, I'll only wear it a few months and I've saved a fortune!

ShalomToYouJackie · 15/11/2020 22:54

I've found ASOS and New Look great. I'm 15 weeks and don't have a bump but am just much bigger and bloated and my normal size has been perfect for maternity stuff.

ShalomToYouJackie · 15/11/2020 22:55

Also there's usually a lot of bundles of maternity clothes on FB marketplace + Gumtree which is great as you're only wearing them for a few months. For some reason all the bundles near me are a size 6 or 8 and I definitely am not that size

I was an E when I got pregnant too with a small back size but due to working from home and not having a social life due to Covid I’ve been fine with the crop tops!

Lou98 · 15/11/2020 22:57

@39weekswithno2 I'm generally a 38E pre pregnancy, usually wear wired

@peachypetite I'll maybe order some then and give them a go. Just trying to find some wired ones as my job is fairly physical and so like a bra to have good support I'm just finding my current ones are getting a bit uncomfortable and looking for maternity ones but trying to find them in an E cup and wired is a nightmare 🙈

I would start off by measuring yourself using the boob or bust method or go to bravissimo if there's one open near you.

www.booborbust.com

Once you know your size (most people wear the wrong size) I find roughly you're ok getting a bra in 1 cup size and 1 back size bigger than your normal size. Start the bra on the tightest clips and loosen as your rib cage expands.

Bravissimo have a lot of supportive non wired bras. Personally I wore wired until around 28 weeks when the top of my bump started pressing on the wiring and started to become really uncomfortable.

39weekswithno2 · 15/11/2020 23:04

Bravissimo also do lots of wired bras in E cup. Definitely measure yourself before ordering though.

@Mishmased yep, well they deffo do jeans anyway. Online that it. I was quite reluctant to spend double what Dorothy Perkins jeans cost but my DH bought them for me and they were amazing. The quality was really good and so worth the money

39weekswithno2 · 15/11/2020 23:05

They don't need to be specific maternity bras (unless you mean nursing bras but I wouldn't buy them yet anyway, your boobs could dramatically change when your milk comes in)

Bumble84 · 15/11/2020 23:06

I bought maternity jeans from ASOS and hated them. They really didn’t sit right under my bump and actually hurt but it was too late to send back. Leggings from ASOS were good though. I bought a few t shirts from Dorothy Perkins but actually even at 34 weeks I’m still wearing my original primark vests and t shirts as they’re so stretchy. I also have chunky cardigans that are obviously still good to wear as well. I wouldn’t go overboard with buying stuff especially since no ones really going anywhere!

Mishmased · 15/11/2020 23:08

Thanks @MrsMarrio will def have a look. 11 weeks pregnant with third and I'm getting uncomfortable.

MrsMarrio · 15/11/2020 23:27

@Mishmased literally couldn't recommend them enough!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 16/11/2020 03:25

Also agree that ASOS maternity is awful quality. I remember I got a top from there and one sleeve was hemmed, and the other wasnt. The jeans didnt stay up either.

Mishmased · 16/11/2020 07:28

@Letsallscreamatthesistene that could be the style 🤣🤣🤣
