Hi, new here so hoping someone can help. I had a microwave M&S grated veg pot with dinner last night, corgette, potato brocolli etc and realised this morning when putting bin out it went out of date 7days ago. Currently 20 weeks after years of trying! Petrified I’ll have caught listeria!! Can anyone advise or should I call midwife? Thanks x

I think call the midwife to put your mind at ease. It can't hurt.

If it was me I was be less worried about veg and more worried about meat or cheese or something like that.

Xxx

I wouldn’t worry about this. It’s vegetables not meat. I know it’s preprepared but if it had gone off I think it would have tasted and smelled horrid.

You'd be ill by now if you did have food poisoning. It only takes 6-8 hours for food to be digested.

In summary, you're fine. And congratulations Smile

Changethetoner · 15/11/2020 12:58

You are fine. If it was food poisoning, you would already be vomiting.

SunnySideUp2020 · 15/11/2020 12:58

No, i wouldn't call the midwife. How can she help?
If it tastes ok it was probably fine. These used by date are very conservative. And it wasn't dairy or meat product.
As it was said before you would feel ill already if you had food poisoning.
It will be ok!

Thank you so much for you replies!! I put Nando’s sauce on as I hate veg so not sure if it tasted ok or not! I’ll try not to worry about it; there’s just so much scary stuff out there especially about listeria!! 20 week scan tomo so hopefully that will out my mind at ease!!

Good luck. It is more likely that the vegetables have lost nutrients and flavour than got listeria (isn't that just from dairy products) good luck with your scan Tommow

dementedpixie · 15/11/2020 13:46

You cooked it so anything lingering in it would be killed. Veg has a best before date not a use by date so quality suffers but its not dangerous

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 15/11/2020 14:29

You're fine. Don't worry

DramaAlpaca · 15/11/2020 14:32

I really wouldn't worry.

yarrow89 · 15/11/2020 17:12

I've had food poisoning before (pre-pregnancy) and your body knows pretty quickly haha! You're definitely fine :)

KinderWild · 15/11/2020 17:32

I think microwaving would have killed any bacteria that would have been present.

KinderWild · 15/11/2020 17:33

*may not would

Gilmartin89 · 17/11/2020 14:02

Thank you so much for all you help :) never got poorly so gonna just hope all is ok from it. Hope you all have a wonderful week x
