Maternity leave

Hey,

I know everything is up in the air with corona at the mo but does anyone know what the rules are from 28 weeks? Can I be made by my employer to start maternity leave that early or do I have the right for my employer to redeploy me to a different role, more isolated and away from others, from 28 weeks until I would normally go off on mat leave?

I know my daughters teacher (year 5) is working at home for her final trimester, although the Head teacher is still working in school, perhaps a# she doesn’t have a class.

My work are saying I must start my maternity leave at 28 weeks.
When I said that I didn't think they could force me, they said that perhaps they can get me to sign something to say 'I refused the offer'
I work with children so social distancing is impossible, I want to remain safe but starting maternity leave early means 12 possible 14 weeks less with baby! It's difficult to know what to do.

The earliest it could start is 29 weeks. If they can't make it safe for you or find other suitable jobs for you then they can suspend you on full pay until maternity leave starts on a date of your choice. They cannot make you start maternity leave unless you are off with a pregnancy related illness in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy

@LittleRa do not let them force u to start mat leave early, they have to make work safe for you and you clearly can't social distance from children so they need to either give u admin work or send you home (medically superseded on full pay) if not get a sick note from ur Gp for stress make sure it's not preg related as u then have to start mat leave 4 weeks before due date.

Hi,

So I am a co owner and director of a business and my baby is only 7 weeks old. My business partner is pressuring and quite frankly, bullying me, into returning to work early. She says the 6 months maternity leave I have said I am taking is unfair and unrealistic and I am not acting like a business owner. I am so upset and being made to feel like I have to choose between the shop and my baby.

Are there any other business owners out there and how long have you had for maternity leave? Am I being unfair?

I co own a business. I'm taking 3 weeks full leave then another 3 months working about 3 hours a day, I'll then go back full time.
