I didn’t have anti D after my last baby and I’m pregnant again!

I had my last baby 9 months ago and didn’t have the anti D injection as I was so sure I didn’t want anymore children and I also just wanted to get the hell out of there!

Anyway due to a contraceptive failure I have just found out I am around 6 weeks pregnant... how urgent is this? Can it wait a couple of weeks til I see the midwife or do I need to be seen ASAP? Will I need anti d or will they just check to see if there was sensitisation and any antibodies?

Obviously I’ll ring the doctors in the morning but I can’t find anything about it from googling so thought I’d ask in here first.

TIA x

I had exactly the same situation as you - there was no problem. When I had my bloods done at 12 weeks there were no antibodies. My dd was fine (and she is rh positive).

Did they test the cord blood when your baby was born? Baby could well be negative and that's maybe why they didn't give anti d? Otherwise I thought they always gave it for exactly this situation

Anyway as above, they'll be able to test for antibodies when you see the midwife, don't panic!

Thankyou both Smile

I didn't get another injection after either of my kids were born, they were both negative, it wasn't mentioned, I think they test the cord blood- sure it will be ok. Congratulations!

Thanks guys, I made an appointment with the midwife today for a couple of weeks time, and she said it can wait til then so I’m guessing it’s not anything to worry about right now.

I see a few ladies on here talking about anti-d, what is it?

It's a blood product given to rhesus negative women which prevents antibodies being made that could harm a future baby (if the mother has carried a rh positive baby and any blood mixed during the birthing process)
