What do I do!
Just the thought of folic acid makes me sick! The tablet version and the liquid! I've tried both! Honestly any type of medication is making me want to vomit! What do I do!
It is so hard to keep the folic acid down :(

Is it making you vomit or just want to? It’s really important in the first trimester so try and find a way to get it in you.

@AnneLovesGilbert
both! I'm nearly 13 weeks now and I've taken it throughout just missing a few days when I really couldn't take it.
But I'm really struggling now. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick. I don't know what's wrong with me! It's ridiculous. I used to be fine taking medication before becoming pregnant 🙈

The same thing happened to me im currently 13+4 weeks but it makes me so nausea x

HopefulMama2020 · 11/11/2020 21:58

You can stop taking it! The NHS only recommends taking folic acid until 12 weeks. There's some evidence that continuing to take folic acid throughout later pregnancy can result in a higher chance of your baby having tongue tie.

Still need to take vitamin d though :)

Mrsjayy · 11/11/2020 22:01

just stop taking it the recommended thing is 12 weeks isn't it ?

peachypetite · 11/11/2020 22:03

You can stop taking it now

gretagreengrapes · 11/11/2020 22:03

I was the same with medications in early pregnancy. My midwife reassured me that my folate levels were not low on my blood tests and I just ate breakfast cereals with added vitamins and it was fine. I just thought to myself women in tribes in remote places have healthy pregnancies and dont worry about taking folic acid!

lilly02 · 11/11/2020 22:06

Oh my goodness 🙈 I wish I had these answers an hour ago. It took me 20 mins to get 2 spoons of it down me an hour ago! And I didn't even need to take it!
Thankyou everyone xx

Dillo10 · 11/11/2020 22:17

Yeah you can stop taking it
Buy a vitamin d spray from Better you (they taste so good)

Mrsjayy · 11/11/2020 22:30

Do you recommend the vit d spray ? I'm not pregnant but take vit d I have wondered about the sprays

TenThousandSpoons0 · 12/11/2020 04:01

Looks like you have your answer :) just wanted to say (and for anyone else reading) - there are a couple of reasons some women are advised to continue folate throughout pregnancy - things like particular epilepsy medications, high BMI - so not everyone should stop at 12 weeks. Hope that doesn’t apply for you tho, your midwife/doc would have told you.

MaryShelley1818 · 12/11/2020 06:37

As poster above has stated many women are advised to keep taking it throughout the entire pregnancy so no one without the OPs medical history should be advising her to stop taking medication.

I'm 27wks pregnant and still taking Folic Acid.

Moo678 · 12/11/2020 07:38

I was told to take it all the way through at my booking appointment- might be better to check with your midwife. I have really tiny tablets surely better than taking big spoonfuls of horrible tasting stuff? Could you push it into a sweet or blueberry or something?

Moo678 · 12/11/2020 07:39

Oh and I don’t have a high BMI or epilepsy....
