MSG in early pregnancy?

I do a lot of Chinese cooking and like to add a sprinkle of MSG sometimes to enhance the flavour. I can't remember it ever making me feel ill.

However, I'm currently about 10 weeks pregnant after a miscarriage and thus really paranoid about my diet. A quick Google shows loads of mixed opinions on whether or not MSG is safe in pregnancy.

Does anyone know for sure? 😔

It's not on the NHS website so I personally wouldnt be concerned, but would it be that bad to just skip the MSG for a few months? If you're not sure that's what I would do.

I eat chinese and msg occasionally and no problem.
Also was a bit paranoid after a loss but i don't think msg increases risks.
Obviously in moderation

When I had terrible morning sickness, Chinese was all I could face to eat so must have had tens of takeaways in the first trimester. Tbh I didn't even consider MSG. This was 14 years ago though

@KitKatastrophe That is a v good point- erring on the side of caution is the best way of stopping myself worrying. Unfortunately I'm a bit like @Littleposh in that there's only so much I can stomach at the moment, so cooking Chinese food is a treat I give myself once or twice a month.

Thank you for the reassurance @SunnySideUp2020 , do you think a couple of times a month counts as in moderation?

Oh I definitely wouldnt worry if it's only a few times a month. You said you cook a lot of chinese food, I was thinking it was a few times a week or more. You'll be fine with a sprinkle once a fortnight

@scrambledeggy definitely!!
Enjoy your Chinese :)

Thanks @KitKatastrophe and @SunnySideUp2020, I do cook a lot of Chinese food but save the MSG for special occasions...sounds lame but you've got to look forward to what you can in lockdown 😂
