Baby measuring small waiting to speak to doctor

Need a hand hold 😭

I'm 37+1 weeks, went in for a growth scan at 8am this morning after my bump shrunk by 5cm in 3 days. The growth scan shows he is measuring very small and is 4 weeks behind but they said everything looks healthy and normal but would be best to get baby out as hes not seeming to be growing very much inside of me so will need to be discussed with a doctor the plan on weather to induce me today or tomorow.

I've been waiting for this discussion with a doctor now for 2 hours, sat on my own in the waiting room crying whilst other people come in with their partners yet I'm not allowed mine 😭 its torture 😭

I'm sorry OP must be very scary, how come your partner isn't allowed if others are? Seems a bit unfair?

FtmNov22 · 02/11/2020 10:55

I don't know why others are allowed partners in and some not. I did walk out for fresh air after I was sat in the waiting room and 2 other women walked in with their partners, my partner has been sat in the car park the whole time waiting and they are aware! All this waiting on my own is horrible 😭

OP, my baby measured very small and was whisked out by csection just before 37 weeks. She was absolutely fine. 4 and a half pounds and needed a little help in the first week but after that was away and now a high energy 4 year old.

I've been given so little information about what is going on and I feel forgotten about and it's even worse sat on my own for this long!

Oh op I'm sorry you're going through this I hope they come to speak to you soon xx

biscuit13 · 02/11/2020 12:35

@FtmNov22 I cant believe they haven't let your partner come in, especially when they are talking about making decisions, its so unfair I really feel for you. Im 39+5 and am feeling anxious about the whole thing myself too. What did they estimate babys weight to be? X

Alwaystired99 · 02/11/2020 12:36

I'm 37+1 too with a baby who's dropped to around the 3rd centile. I've had regular growth and well-being scans for 6 weeks now and should hopefully be having a section this Thursday as the consultant thinks better out than in. I've known for over a month this was likely to happen but it must be a massive shock to find out like this for you, especially on your own. My last consultant appointment was over an hour and a half late and I had to sit and wait while loads of men got brought into scans with their partners. It felt crap as mine hasn't been allowed to any scans or any appointments so I know how lonely you feel and also how arbitrary and unfair. I think 37 weeks isn't too little and I hope you get the answers and support you need very soon. Keep making them know you're still waiting!

Ended up waiting 3 hours before talking to a doctor! Booked in for a induction at 4pm, been allowed home to come back at 4pm with my partner allowed in with me at 4pm to stay until after birth then he's allowed back to visit 9am-9pm once he has a negative corona test result.

Good luck! Flowers

Mine were both IUGR, both wee 5lb babies.
And I had them at 37 weeks. 2 separate pregnancies btw.

Not a jot of an issue, gained weight quickly, absolutely bouncing whirlwinds.

In fact my 5lb baby who I could hold in one hand he was so teeny tiny is now a 5 ft 8 17 year old with his head wedged constantly in my fridge hoovering up the contents.

It’ll be absolutely grand! And yay, you get to meet your baby today Smile

Alwaystired99 · 02/11/2020 15:05

Wow, exciting! At least you've got a plan now and get to meet your baby soon x

Labradormama1 · 02/11/2020 15:08

Hi OP, good luck with your induction. Just to add, I had my baby 3 weeks ago at 36 weeks due to slow in growth - born on 9th centile at a tiny 4lbs9oz. After a 5 day stay in hospital (just for monitoring because she was small) she is absolutely fine and was above her birth weight after just under two weeks. I was very emotional at first - she was born via emergency c section - but was explained to me that IUGR babies most often thrive once out of the womb because they can get then get their nutritional needs etc. Hope you get to meet your little one soon

Somethingvague · 02/11/2020 15:11

I had a c section at 37+4 because of measuring small. All was fine - she was 5lbs12oz and literally came out licking her lips hungry and fed the entire first night pretty much. She's since piled on weight and has moved from the 2nd to the 25th percentile. I was very anxious beforehand but it all definitely worked out for the best. Just a rubbish placenta for some reason.

Good luck OP Cake

Good luck, hope everything goes well. I was induced because I was measuring small. My son was born just under 4lbs at 38 weeks and diagnosed with severe symmetrical IUGR. We spent just over 2 weeks in the Neonatal Unit and had a few complications when he was younger. He is now a healthy, tall, 2 year old on approx the 9th centile for weight (he was no way near even the very bottom of the chart when he was born). I would recommend joining the IUGR Support Group UK on Facebook if you need any advice or reassurance from others in a similar situation. Wishing you the best.

Littlejacksmummy · 02/11/2020 15:45

I was induced at 37 weeks due to slow growth. 4lb 8oz. Didn't even need a visit to special care. He is 11 months old on thursday. Little monster has his 5th tooth coming through and currently using me as a chew toy 😂 oh, and he isn't so little 🤣

atz333 · 02/11/2020 17:52

Try not to worry too much. Occasionally scans do get it wrong as well (as they did with mine, also 37+1 today. I had a 32 week scan saying baby is small then 34 weeks they said normal) but even if baby is measuring a little smaller, once he/she is out, they'll be able to give the best care.
You'll be seeing your baby very soon; try to think of the positives. I hope it all goes well for you and baby is nice and healthy!

Thank you all for your kind messages! Had the first tablet inserted at 5, waiting for things to start going!
