My little girl - 17 days old - is really stuffy nosed it can be heard so much when she’s sleeping.
I’ve taken her to the GP already just to check to says her chest etc is all clear and she looks good.
I can’t helping thinking that she must feel quite uncomfortable, is there anything I can do to help her?

Saline drops would help with that; I used them with my DS earlier this year. Calpol do some for babies.

Poor little thing. Saline drops and a nose sucker. Its not particularly pleasant to do, but it works every time for me. I'm sure saline drops are suitable at that age as well. You can normally get both in any baby section.

Thank you, I’ll get some of the drops today

I found a humidifier with a few drops of olbus oil helped.

Calpol also do a plug in that helps my DS when he’s got a cold or blocked nose

If possible OP try tilting her cot/carrycot slightly so she is lying at a downwards angle (hope that makes sense!) it should help let everything drain out - snufflebabe snot sucker is also brilliant. You are doing brilliantly- hope the snuffles pass soon.

Willow4987 · 29/10/2020 21:38

Oh and you can get something called snufflebabes. They have this chest rub thing that’s a bit like vicks but safe for babies. Unsure what age though

Nubbin · 29/10/2020 21:42

Calpol, vicks etc - none of it is really ok for newborns. Was it a c-section birth? My second was and super snuggly/snory at night for the first 6 weeks - apparently to do with not clearing it the same way with a vaginal birth. It didn't bother her - just me as I worried about her breathing but everything was fine and it cleared (I did the same re GP checking chest clear). When my eldest got v congested as a baby and couldn't get rid of the snot - the most effective is to just suck it out of their nose - the 'suckers' are pretty useless - mums mouth over their nose - disgusting but incredibly effective.

Snuffly not snuggly!

Try snufflebabe, im sure its safe for newborns but check with the pharmacist first. I remember using it years ago. You can also get humidifiers that have menthol strips in them, i got one of these a few years ago and its brilliant for easing blocked noses and also helps when colds turn into chesty coughs, helps the DC's especially at night.
