Hi ladies
I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and had a very minor crash in the car yesterday. Basically reversed into a street light šŸ™ˆ although minor it did really jolt me back and was a loud bang. I’ve since read about placenta abruption from even the smallest car crash’s . Do you think baby will be ok?

Have you been checked out by a doctor?

trashaccount · 28/10/2020 21:44

Go to the doctor to check, if you can?

Gerdticker · 28/10/2020 21:45

I had someone drive into the back of me at about 18 weeks. Luckily I had no whiplash and was just a bit shaken.

I think 18 weeks would be too early to do anything about it if you had done any damage, but by what you describe that sounds very unlikely. Baby is so tiny and well protected at this stage.

If you get any bleeding (I think that’s the main sign of placental abruption) call your hospital maternity triage.

I haven't got checked yet as I didn't know whether too or not Z feel
A bit silly as it wasn't a big crash but it was a jolt ! X

Never a waste of time to get checked out imo...

LittleTiger007 · 29/10/2020 13:11

Definitely get checked out oP just to be sure all is well. Plus get a pregnancy safe car seatbelt adaptor. They are about Ā£12 on amazon and once fitted they divert the lap strap down between your legs so that the baby isn’t squashed by a jolt in the car. Well worth the money.

Here’s one, there are others:

I was in a serious accident on the motorway at 16 weeks. We were lucky and both walked away with just seat belt and air bag injuries. Baby was completely fine and is now an 11 week old asleep on my lap.

I went to a and e but wasn't very reassured, they said as long as I didn't have pain or bleeding assume all was fine, I hadn't felt movements so I didn't have reduced movements to watch out for.

I had a 16 week midwife appointments a few days later and she was able to hear the heartbeat and that reassured me. Give your maternity triage number or midwife a call to get checked over and to put your mind at ease.

BibbityBobbityBellend · 29/10/2020 13:39

It sounds like you'll both be absolutely fine. Call the doctor/midwife anyway. Better safe than sorry.

Heyha · 29/10/2020 13:44

Never hurts to make a phonecall to midwife/triage and they will advise you whether you need a physical check or what to keep an eye out for.
Things like this are exactly why they give you the phone numbers and no midwife will mind a ten minute chat with you. Hopefully all ok but doesn't hurt to check even if just for your own stress levels šŸ™‚

I feel off my bike at 18 wks - kneed myself in the bump, cut my knee and banged my head badly enough to need a new helmet. I was totally fine and so was the baby who is currently removing all the cushions from my sofa! No harm in phoning triage if you’re worried though x

Frazzled2207 · 29/10/2020 14:28

Unless you are bleeding or in pain I would say you’re fine but no harm in calling 111. At that stage baby is well cushioned. I fell off my bike at that kind of gestation and also was involved in a bad car crash at 32 weeks. Both times was totally in bits but was fine.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 29/10/2020 15:36

What blood group are you op? Rhesus negative please go for a check up...

fizzyblush · 29/10/2020 20:30
