Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice. This is my first pregnancy and I’m 9 weeks pregnant. I’ve had the usual symptoms so far: sore boobs, nausea, mild cramping etc but on Saturday I experienced really bad cramps like period cramps (I would get them really bad on my period) and strong nausea which lasted for around 5 hours followed by a water infection. The pain reduced into dull aches but because I was doubled over in pain most of the day I went to the out of ours docs. They said they weren’t able to give me an early scan because it wouldn’t be reliable even if they could hear the heartbeat! So I now have to wait 3 weeks until my 12 week scan without knowing if I’ve lost the baby or not Sad
This morning and I have woken up with no symptoms what so ever and I’m now worried that this has confirmed my fears and that I’ve lost my baby.
Has this happened to anyone else and is it normal to just stop having symptoms at 9 weeks?

Thanks in advance!!

Symptoms do come and go so I wouldn’t worry about that. If you want you could have a private scan. Heartbeats should be picked up now since you’re 9 weeks.

My symptoms disappeared at 9 weeks with both pregnancies.
I was relieved as painful breats were the cause of many an hour of lost sleep.
Both pregnancies were fine.

Sixpencefaux · 28/10/2020 09:14

My symptoms disappeared about week 10 and all was fine x

The placenta kicks in and takes over, reducing the symptoms for most women, around the 8-12 week mark and is absolutely normal for symptoms to disappear.
As PP has said, you can book a private scan.

My symptoms completely stopped at 9 weeks too, it's completely normal as the placenta takes over around then. I too was convinced something had happened and booked a private scan. Is this something you can do to help reassure you?

As PP have said, completely normal to start losing symptoms around this stage as the placenta takes over. And also recommend a private scan, its worth every penny x

Hi @Becca442 this exact thing happened to me last week (I am now in week 10) for a couple of days my symptoms completely went away (and I’d had a lot of them!) I was petrified as I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in the summer. When I had the miscarriage though I didn’t know about it until a scan at 10 weeks and then a medical management in hospital. The symptoms continued at that time until a month after the miscarriage! 😖😥 So last week I was panicking like you. As someone has said above, the placenta takes over at around this time and many women have a drop or change in symptoms, which I hadn’t known about. Since then my symptoms have come and gone, my bloatedness has eased considerably but my boobs have become a lot more tender. I feel sick on and off, some days are a lot better than others. It seems to be different for everyone but a change at this time seems normal, including the total cessation of symptoms for many. I have booked a private scan for this weekend to check that all is ok as it really is a terribly worrying time. Please be reassured that all may be fine and probably is. I can understand your worry though as I feel the same. Flowers

Hi @Becca442,

I couldn't go by and not comment as I had a very similar experience around the same time of my pregnancy; really severe cramping, doubled over in pain and went to the hospital. I DID get checked out and they couldn't find a reason, and baby's heart was still beating away but they kept saying "for now" which was so stressful and awful. I also had my symptoms decrease at this point, only to come back RAGING at 10 weeks so all of it was such a stressful, mind-bending time.

I just wanted to give you hope that you CAN have that kind of pain and have everything be ok. I'm currently 15 weeks and everything was fine on my 12 week scan. Especially if they chalked your pain up to a water infection, that won't hurt baby.

My doctor said as long as there is no visible bleeding (and honestly, sometimes that is fine too) there is no reason to think the worst. I know you will stress and I'm sorry you have to wait 3 weeks; I remember what that felt like. When my symptoms returned at 10 weeks, I felt a little better and the night before my scan I remember I had never felt MORE pregnant so at that point I breathed a little easier.

You got this momma.

I will bet your symptoms come back at some point; I had many many days of feeling nothing only to have one REALLY awful-feeling day.

I'm 9 weeks and my symptoms disappeared about a week ago, no nausea or fatigue. Even managed to make an evening meal the other night! Genuinely thought baby had stopped growing and there wouldn't be a heartbeat.

Went for a private scan yesterday, quite clearly a tiny little blob kicking a leg and thriving in there with a lovely strong heartbeat.

Try not to worry too much.

Hi everyone,

Thank you so so much for all your replies they really helped ease my mind.

I’ve booked into a private clinic for this Sunday for a reassurance scan. I’ll be 10 weeks then.

Hopefully this will come back all ok and will stop me worrying for my 12 week scan.

So glad I am not alone in this!

❤️❤️

Good luck with the scan @Becca442! I’m having my first scan on Saturday ... excited and terrified in equal measure. Flowers

Thank you again everyone for the support. I went for my scan yesterday and everything came back fine 😁 the baby has a healthy heartbeat. So pleased that I booked for a private scan. Definitely worth the money for my peace of mind!! Can get back to being excited now!
