Chances of gender scan being wrong?

I had a private gender scan at 17 weeks and have my official 20 week scan next week.
What are the chances of the previous gender scan being wrong?! (Honestly would not mind if it was and over the moon regardless)

Btw, was told that we are have a baby girl Halo

It’s pretty rare that they are wrong

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 24/10/2020 12:58

It is pretty rare, however my last child was a girl until the day I gave birth to him 😂😂. We were told on the scan that it was almost 100% a girl 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s generally rare, particularly if you’ve had an additional scan (s). However everyone knows someone( cousin betty’s, neighbours aunt kind of thing) that they’ve got it wrong with.

Thanks for your replies!
Will see what happens next week, though I just have a feeling they've got it wrong for some reason (I was convinced I was having a boy but granted, a sonographer is to be trusted more than me haha)

They are wrong. Mine was (told girl, had boy!)

They can be wrong.. typed too fast! It is rare but I was told if it is going to be wrong it is usually girl to boy

ChilliMum · 24/10/2020 14:07

When I had my daughter the sonographer told me that they look for the presence of girl parts and the absence of boy parts.

If they see boy parts they are fairly confident in their prediction that its a a boy, however if they don't see a penis it's most probably a girl however sometimes the angle of the scan or the penis is tucked in so there but not visible Smile so less confident.

We checked as we had a girl - first for many generations in DH's family so a lovely but unexpected surprise Grin

I think its rare. Personally I wouldn't tell the sonographer at the 20 week scan that you have been told the sex yet and see what their opinion is. If they say the same as the private sonographer, I think you can be pretty sure it's accurate.
