What did they suggest would happen next? Have you been referred for further scans or are the medical team not worried?

Remember that 5th centile means that for every 100 babies, 5 are as small or smaller than yours, so it really isn't super uncommon.

Bid876 · 22/10/2020 10:47

Do you or your DH come from small families?

They told me my 1st DD was small, I didn’t worry as all my family are small even the men.

Did they say they were worried?

CrazyMumma98 · 22/10/2020 11:03

They was meant to put me in for a immediate ultrasound scan again but they said the department was closed so got to come back in Wednesday next week

Hi. Can I ask why they were scanning you at 28 weeks? I have low papp-a and so am having a 28 week growth scan on Tuesday and am getting nervous.
Sorry, not much help there. X

CrazyMumma98 · 22/10/2020 12:09

I have low Papp-a too that’s why I’m having more scans. Don’t be nervous u will be fine sending love ur way x

What race are you and the father? Some races have smaller babies if I recall correctly

custardbear · 22/10/2020 12:22

I've just looked at a Chart (not my job by the way ) and I'd say 1kg is between 10 and 50 centile?!

CrazyMumma98 · 22/10/2020 12:24

We both are white British

I had exactly this. Weekly growth scans until 35 weeks where I was told at that scan I needed to come in the following morning for c section. Baby had grown but was still very small and had IUGR. She was fine and we were in hospital for a week after she was born. Then discharged with extra weighing checks at baby clinic. She was only 3lb 11 born but absolutely fine.

lolsurro · 22/10/2020 12:24

I also fitted none of the descriptors for low birth weight. Never smoked in my life, don't drink alcohol so certainly didnt when pregnant, ate very healthy, white British etc

WankPuffins · 22/10/2020 12:29

Please don’t worry.

I have had the same with all three of my children.

All born below 3rd centile, they were all 25th centile or above when weighed at 6 weeks. The elder two ended up 91st centile For height and weight by 6 months and stayed big! My Ds is six foot now at 18.

My third baby is 8 weeks old, the hospital was giving me all sorts of scare stories but I knew she would be just like her siblings. She was 5lb at birth, she’s 10lb now at 8 weeks. She’s now on 25th centile, born on 2nd.

Some women just grow small babies and they catch up when out of the womb, it’s simply not true that they will always be small if born small.

I didn’t either. But the midwife at my booking ticked the wrong box in error - she ticked the one saying I was a heavy smoker! It took me two months to sort it out. I even did the carbon monoxide test again to prove I wasn’t a smoker - wouldn’t have got a reading of 1 if I was!

I Got an apology from the consultant in the end, I was treated like crap for refusing to attend a stop smoking group - I’ve never smoked in my life!

ivfbeenbusy · 22/10/2020 12:45

I'm 22 weeks with twins and one of them is measuring really small - much less than 5th centile - I was told as long as she grows consistently then it's fine and not to worry too much - it's only if her growth slows or stops that it's a concern x

Grumpy19 · 22/10/2020 13:02

@CrazyMumma98 I'll let you know how I get on.
I'm sure we'll both be fine but it is yet another pregnancy worry. Is your bump small (has the mw done your fundal height measurement?)

alphabetti · 22/10/2020 13:03

I had a growth scan at 28wks and my baby showed to be 2lb5oz I was told on the smaller side but as placenta seemed fine they were not concerned just need regular growth scans to check growth doesn’t slow. Both me and my partner are smaller builds tho so.

Maidmummy · 23/10/2020 07:51

I'm having growth scans too, no low papp-a here but previous small babies, at my 28 week scan baby weighed 2lb 3oz on the small side but everything else perfectly healthy, as long as baby continues to grow steadily along the line then I wouldn't worry too much, if baby starts to drop off then they may start to talk about inducing early, this happened with me in my last pregnancy, baby was growing along the 10th centile then he suddenly dropped off at 36 weeks and he was born by induction at 38 weeks weighing 5lb 9oz and on the 1st centile but perfectly healthy just dainty. Take the scans with a pinch of salt as I was told by my consultant they can be up to nearly a pound out either way x

NotMaryWhitehouse · 23/10/2020 13:18

@CrazyMumma98 what was your Papp-A score, if you don't mind me asking? I was told mine is a little on the low side, but my SIL is a midwife and told me they didn't even measure it when she had hers!

esmethurst · 23/10/2020 13:23

Had 5 growth scans
All said baby was tiny and to prepare for a 4lb child
He was 8.3lbs
