I was diagnosed with GB at 28 weeks (not a suprise due to immediate family history, age and AID). Had to go on insulin quite quickly as my thyroid meds cause high blood sugar and my fasting bloods were high but it seems under control now. I just had a growth scan and my baby has dropped from 30th percentile to 10th in the last 5 weeks since starting the GB diet. The Dr. said placenta and fluid look good, but he's concerned about the growth being less than the curve. I'm going back in 2 weeks and if the measurements have dropped anymore I'll be delivering at 36 weeks!

I've also lost weight during the same period since the GB diagnosis which isn't great as I had only put on 7lbs total at 28 weeks. I'm now back to to 7lbs weight gain at 33 weeks but I don't know if the lack of growth is because of the diabetes or if I just need to eat more! Anyone had this issue? Can you increase fetal weight through diet? I'd like to keep the baby in for as long as possible, provided they're safe.

@MariaDingbat I can’t really help but I’m in a similar position. Due to booking late and having first scan at 18wks I am under a consultant who said I should have GTT. Had it at 28wks and fasting level was fine just level after glucose drink was 9.3.

Had to monitor bloods for 2weeks and some were a little high and I’d kept diary of what I’d eaten so diabetes consultant made decision to go straight onto metaformin x2 a day.

Since 20weeks my baby has gone between 10th and 20th centile which I’m told is on small side but I’m small build and so is my partner so they said not to worry unless she starts to drop or placenta looks to be failing. I’m 33wks and have next scan next week but starting to worry that the metaformin might cause her to drop in weight as I’m sure my face starting to look slimmer and my collar bone sticking out bit more - sounds daft and I’m very sleep deprived right now lol There has been talk of induction if baby looks not to be growing well or placenta failing but I really hoping I can hang on until full term.

I was told to just eat as normal but obviously limit the processed sugar and not go too carb heavy. I’m trying to eat as much fresh food as can to try n get as much nutrients into me for baby. She seems happy enough kicking away but it’s such a worry isn’t it!
