Can I just buy aspirin instead of taking the prescribed one?

My consultant prescribed aspirin, but it was when I was moving to a new area, so at my midwife appt in my new doctors she struggled to get the prescription so I’m still waiting. Can I just buy the aspirin from the chemist instead (the right dose)? I know I probably sound so stupid for asking!

Yes. If you can get the right dose or even chop up normal dose aspirin into the right dose. It looks like you’d be prescribed 150mg and normal tablets are 300mg, so it’s fine to just cut one in half.

I’m not a medic, but work in a related field.

You could buy it, but a pharmacy might not be comfortable selling it to you if you tell them you're pregnant so you might want to consider sending someone to get it for you.

Yes I buy 75mg dose from Asda.

I buy my 75mg aspirin from local pharmacy. The pharmacist always just asks if I have been advised to take it by a midwife or consultant. They are then fine selling it to me. I’ve never bothered to get it on prescription when you can get it for about 75p in Wilko and supermarkets.

Thank you all - I’ll just buy some. I wasn’t sure if the prescribed one was different, although I assumed not. I’ll pick some up tomorrow!

I buy it. Savers sell 75mg tablets that are gastro resistant so you don't have to dissolve them.

If you can get a copy of the prescription it would be worth having in case you are every refused it by a diligent pharmacist. I was refused it in my last pregnancy and had to go to the docs and get a prescription (my consultants letter wouldnt cut it).

I just buy it. Apart from once when a chemist refused to sell it, I have had no issues.
