Health visitor coming before baby is due?

First pregnancy so not sure whether this is the norm or there has been a mistake! Just had a text message from the NHS reminding me of a HV appointment tomorrow at half 10.. I had no idea this was even happening until now 🤣 I’m 30 weeks and 4 days. My midwife did not inform me of this at my last appointment. Has anyone else had this?

Normal! They just come to introduce theirselves, meet you, put faces to names as such! They will ask you some questions about your situation and background but thats about it :)

It's normal. They usually meet you before you have the baby. Should just be some paperwork and just to check you've got stuff sorted really. It's also nice to know who you'll be expecting to see on day 10 when the midwife hands you over!

I didn't see the HV with either child until about 2 weeks post birth.

Maybe it's changed in the last couple of years and it's not necessarily a bad thing if they are taking the time to meet parents to be and give advice before the birth, but it's a bit presumptuous to assume you will just be at home with no warning!

Yes you usually meet your health visitor prior to the birth sonetime in the 3rd trimester. Either at home or at a clinic.

I would be a bit confused to get that message having not had any contact previously however. You usually would get a letter with an appointment and a number to ring if not convenient.

Yes they come and chat to you about nothing much.

Just to add my eldest is 5 and it was also the norm then where I live

I had an out the blue phone call from mine the other day (30 weeks). She explained that usually they come and visit before the baby's born but it's the one appointment they can't do in person with Covid so just had a 10 min phone call. (Scotland)

Ah thank you for all the replies! It’s a good thing I got the text as would have been very shocked tomorrow morning to see her at the door.. I’d probably be in pyjamas still 🤣

Routine appointment to meet you before birth. I had the appointment a few weeks ago but it was over the phone due to covid

Yeah normal - had mine a couple of weeks ago. We had a chat about how we were feeling, safe sleeping, a new scheme that's been launched about babies crying, feeding and how to contact her while she's WFH. With my last one we had an excessively long discussion about pet safety despite us not having a pet or any intention to get one!
