Extreme tiredness - early pregnancy

I’m only 5 weeks pregnant and I’m so exhausted, this is my first pregnancy and it’s really getting me down.
I keep reading that exhaustion is normal in early pregnancy but no matter how much sleep I get I’m still exhausted and dizzy the next day.

I find myself crying because of how tired I am and feeling like I’m not functioning.
I have stopped driving to and from work out of fear of falling asleep at the wheel so instead I find myself falling asleep on the commute train instead.

Is this normal to be this exhausted :(

Drink more water and take a chelated iron supplement. You are busy creating a person and a placenta!
Go to bed early and rest

Definitely had this. Was lucky that it was during lockdown but quite often had a nap in the afternoon (30 weeks now and still do sometimes!!). Rest as much as you can Smile

Had this with all my pregnancies - used to slope off to the toilets and nap for 2 mins at a time to get through, and definitely ate too much sugar to stay awake. Good news is it tailed off by 12 weeks.

Working from home has been a godsend in my very early pregnancy - week 5-8 I would quite often find myself falling asleep. Luckily with my job I could flex my working hours and work later to let me have a mid afternoon nap. My experience is tiredness is completely normal, and it has eased off a bit now (week 11)

I had this and still do on and off. Could barely crawl out of bed. Felt like an extended hangover that got no end

Very normal and very awful :( nap when you can and go to bed v early.

I'm pregnant and am in bed by 8pm most nights, up at 6am with DD and napping at lunch time. Im lucky to WFH

This is literally 100% me I write this from my bed. The tiredness is very extreme. Struggling about going about daily life at the moment.

Hoping it drops off soon! 5 weeks too ❤️

Skyla01 · 21/10/2020 12:45

I'm afraid your tiredness sounds normal for first trimester, it's really rough! It should get better though. I'm 27 weeks now and still have much more energy than I did at 8 weeks.

Maybe3ornot · 21/10/2020 12:52

As others have said, nap as much as you can. I’m pregnant with my thirds and have never felt so tired in my life (and yes that’s even with a new born)! I’m 16weeks and still so tired, I’ve had a nap this morning and going back for another nap this afternoon 😬

Yes, I remember falling sleep during dinner in a restaurant for DH's birthday Blush.

It passed after the first twelve weeks but there's not much you can do except go with it. Take advantage of the clocks doing back to get lots of early nights and nap when you can.
