Ectropion and bleeding after sex

So, I have a history of recurring ectropion (benign cells on the outside of my cervix that bleed when irritated) so I'm quite used to having bleeding after sex. I've had it treated in the past, but it seems to come back. I was due for (another) colposcopy in lockdown, but it was cancelled.

Husband and I had sex this morning and I had a bleed. Wouldn't describe it as light, but it was short - lived and painless. I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I wouldn't think much of a post-coital bleed usually because of my history of ectropion, but now I'm pregnant, anxious (history of MC) and it was heavier than usual. Is this likely because of cervical changes? EPU only interested if I am filling pads, which I'm not.

Just looking for reassurance really. Anyone else get this?

I can see you haven't had any other responses - I'm sorry about that.

How would you feel ringing your midwife to ask for advice? Or 111?

Hello, I've not had bleeding after sex as I've not had sex since we conceived and I'm 19 weeks (😳) but I was diagnosed with cervical ectopy and I experienced some spotting from around 7-10 weeks. I think pregnancy changes definitely add to the normal cervix changes so I am sure it's all ok but I can understand your worry!! (This is the reason I'm scared to have sex even now, after history of miscarriage)
Hope this improves soon for you x

I have had bleeding during pregnancy too and found to have ectropion as well. I had a colposcopy about 2 weeks ago and was treated with silver nitrate. I'm not sure if its routine or because I am rhesus negative and have to have anti d every bloody time. Haven't dared to have sex in weeks!

Just to say have you been checked for cervical cancer? I bled after sex and it was a symptom :( it sounds like you have checks regularly tho but I would contact the doctors ASAP x

I had exactly the same issue twice during my pregnancy. Both times I rang the early pregnancy unit and they invited me in for a scan and cervical exam (which was a little uncomfortable!)
I found the midwives to be extremely kind and reassuring and for me it was worth it to put my mind at rest.

Thank you all for your responses 💐 Yes, I'm on top of all my smears and have had many quite recently, having had grade 1 abnormal cells a couple of years ago. I've also had the silver nitrate treatment. Guess I just have an angry cervix!

Feeling a little calmer this morning. Just facing up to the fact that there's going to be a lot of anxiety in the coming months!

Hi got diagnosed with this too and they did an internal exam to confirm and listened to baby's heartbeat with the sonicaid but I was further along at 17w. They also were only really concerned going forward if it would be fresh red blood that fills pads. So I totally understand the anxiety but I think all you can do is try not to worry.. so much easier said than done! Good luck!
