Pregnancy of Unknown Location - 5 weeks

Hey, i am after some real talk / advise or even success stories as I'm in turmoil at the moment and this waiting game is killing me.
On Saturday i started bleeding a little (more spotting more than anything) it started red but has been brown since, along with cramps but nothing major anyway when to the doctor on Sunday and he referred me to a EPU.
So I went there yesterday and they did a scan - there was a sac and they could see something which was about 1mm but they couldn't confirm anything. The lady who done the scan said i was about 2 - 3 weeks pregnant but speaking to the nurse she reconfirmed i was 5 weeks.
They took my bloods and I go back tomorrow for a 2nd lot and they can tell me from there is I am still pregnant or not... reading past threads about PUL is doesn't sound positive. Has anyone had the same as me - does the 1mm dot mean anything or i have i got bad news coming my way?
We have been trying for 3 years so it means alot and all this waiting is killing us... we just dont know what to think.

Hi

This isnt a pregnancy of unknown location.
A PUL is where they cant find the pregnancy at all.
They have found a sac, in your uterus (i presume) so that's 1 thing to knock off your worry list.

When you conceive, you are already 2 weeks pregnant as they base it from the 1st day of your last period.

Finally, if you are 5 weeks, its quite common to only see a sac only.
I had a scan at 5+3 and they could see a sac and a yolk sac but no foetal pole.
The 1mm object you found 'could' be the starting of the yolk sac.

At this point, i really dont think you have anything to worry about if the bleeding has gone brown and the pregnancy is still there.

Good luck

Thanks April2021 thats made me feel alot better.
The nurse gave me a PUL letter but maybe they are just covering themselves?

This happened to me, as pp said it's not a PUL as they have located the pregnancy. Tomorrow they'll check that your level of hcg has doubled. If it has they'll do another scan in about a week to check that the heartbeat has started.

@milly159 I’m the same as you however they won’t send me for a scan and said to just wait 7 days and do another pregnancy test so your doctor is looking after you sending you to EPU. All sounds positive from what I’m reading so remain positive until someone tells you otherwise. Good luck and keep us updated x

I'm sorry to hear you are going through the same thing. It sucks, if I knew either way I would feel much better but the unknown is horrid.
I wish you all the best and ill keep you posted so you know what to look out for xxx

Not to question you but was the letter PUL or a pregnancy of unknown viability?

ShinyBadger · 14/10/2020 06:18

Hi, sorry your going through this.

At about 4/5 weeks you’d see a gestation sac, at 5/6 weeks you should see a gestation sac and yolk sac and late 5s Early 6 weeks you see a fetal Pole develope.

Until you see a clear gestation sac with a yolk sac inside you have to call it as too early or a PUL hence the bloods and the rescan normally 14 days later for the rescan so you can see if there is a development or not.
At 5 weeks I would
Expect to see a gestation sac and maybe a yolk sac depending on which side of 5 weeks you are.

I wish you all the best.

I had this. I had cramps and 1 day small bleed around 5 weeks. Had a scan which showed no sac but my HCG blood levels did show pregnancy so i was told it was a PUL. I had a private scan a week later which showed a sac but no foetal pole so i was rescanned 2 weeks later and it finally showed a viable pregnancy with a heartbeat - think i was 6+6 at that point.
No further issues since and im currently 24+6 Smile
So its not always bad news although google is the worst and does make it seem like its usually bad news!
Good luck!

Hi, and hope you keeping well, first time posting here- confused stressed out and panic.
Have been searching for Any successful stories with PUL diagnosis? Egg retrieval was15.10.2020 and transfer was 20.10.2020 taken to A&E on 31.10.2020 for OHSS. 1.11.2020 positive test with HCG of 345 and 48 hours later HCG of 772 just had my 2nd scan todah and still Pregnancy of unknown location! More blood tests today and another scan booked for this coming Friday, no bleed at any point just pain of OHSS. any similar experiences and positive stories of PUL plz??

physicskate · 04/11/2020 21:10

They wouldn't see anything on a scan until hcg is at least 1000-1500. It's a good sign that the numbers are doubling in 48 hours. It's early days yet.

Sorry you've got ohss. I had it (but pretty mildly) with dd. Keep up the fluids and hope you're being well-looked after!
