Is it worth the money to pay to have professional photos of newborn done? I’m
a FTM and obviously this is a precious first born, I’m just wondering if this is actually something that people are pleased honey did/regret not doing?

All for £95 x

@SquigglyOne Oh wow that is an absolute bargain 😳😅 The lady I’ve picked has her own purpose built studio in the grounds of her property which I quite liked the idea of because some other local ones round here do it at your house or outdoors (😳 in November!) and I wasn’t wanting that lol. I think I’ve paid about 5x what yours was 😂😂🙈

Suzi888 · 08/10/2020 17:56

I paid too and I was really happy with the results.

SquigglyOne · 08/10/2020 17:57

@ScottishLassie91 that’s an incredible deal Shock

@theresaplaceforus oooh I love my newborn professional pics of my two girls so I'd say go for it if you can afford it, personally I think they're well worth it. I still have them up and the girls are 10 and 7. I'll be having them done for my little boy due in 8 weeks xx

MuchTooTired · 08/10/2020 18:08

I had a newborn shoot for mine, and have them up on the wall still even though they’re nearly three! I love the photos, even though they’re staged ones my newborns didn’t work with the photographer and they’re pulling little newborn faces (including some crying). My favourite ones are with them wrapped in a blanket together wearing their little red hats from the hospital.

Wobbitcatcher · 08/10/2020 18:29

I had a shoot for baby 1 and have booked one for baby 2 due any day. I love the photos from my DS shoot and really researched the photographer to make sure I was happy with the style. No baskets/melons in sight!
It was at home and they are really natural family photos and some lovely little close ups of his hands/feet/face.
I have loads of them in a multi aperture frame above the dining table. This photographer is no longer doing it so I’ve had to search again but hopefully I’ll be just as pleased with this time.
Also price varies massively, I’ve seen some £750! Mine is £95 for a 2 hour session and all pics included, which seems good value

Lilice · 08/10/2020 18:32

I did with all 3 of mine and don't regret it. I couldn't get the same quality with my phone. It is expensive but to me it's worth the money

thetangleteaser · 08/10/2020 18:40

I had them done, they are my favorite photos ever, she was 13 days old and the studio was quiet an the photographer amazing. I actually loved getting out, it was there first day I felt semi normal again! She didn’t want to sleep during the shoot so we haven’t got the sleepy basket shots, she’s all bright eyed! We paid £150 ish for 10 digital images, a print but she let us take our own photos the whole way through so we have loads more!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/10/2020 18:54

You can have more than 1 photo shoot in a child’s life Bernadette, you don’t have to wait until they are 9 and 7

I didn't suggest otherwise. I simply put across my opinion that newborn shoots give less in return than pics when the dc are older. Again, my opinion.

EmilySpinach · 08/10/2020 20:59

No, I didn’t for mine. I agree with PP who have described dedicated newborn shoots as ‘generic’; I know quite a few people who have had them done and I’m afraid that regardless of whether you use a ‘natural’ photographer or one who does the strange Anne Geddes poses the babies always end up looking pretty interchangeable.

EmilySpinach · 08/10/2020 21:04

@ScottishLassie91

I'm getting them done but with a photographer weve used before. Great package that includes maternity session + 10x8 Print, 3D scan + cuddly bear with baby's heartbeat, newborn session + 10x8 Print, 3D foot cast, 6 month session + 10x8 print, 1st birthday cake smash session + 10x8 print For that money I really cant grudge it x
Please be prepared for some attempts to upsell you extras. That’s just under £16 for each element and there is literally no way that the photographer is making any money out of the package that you describe.
ScottishLassie91 · 08/10/2020 21:42

I've used her before a few times so really familiar with her and her work is fab and even for large photos she is very reasonable. I plan on getting photos done anyway but this will still work out less with additional prints than other places I've looked at xx

EveningReflection · 08/10/2020 22:12

There are so many scams around for photoshoots. Defintely go with a local photographer, not a package youve seen advertised on Facebook or similar. Some of them will try and charge you £100 a photo at the end or threaten to destroy all the pictures. Ive heard so many horror stories from naive people, thinking they were getting a bargain.

I'm in two minds about whether to do a newborn shoot or whether to avoid the stress, especially with covid. There's a good local photographer that does it for £70 including 20 digital pictures of your choice at the end, so I think it can be good value.

LovelyBranches · 10/10/2020 10:56

My photographer was an absolute steal and I think she realised afterwards how cheaply she was offering her services.

Choose very wisely though. I also went to a photographer through one of those groupon deals and they charged the Earth and produced retouched photo’s that looked nothing like my baby.

Our newborn photographs were completely natural, untouched but beautifully lit and done in her home studio. She went out of her way to make sure our baby was warm and comfortable and we had full say over the styling. I liked simple and no accessories but she did have a range of accessories if that was your style.
