Should I be this run down first trimester? Or to get checked out?

Since about 4 weeks I have been ill constantly - now 12 weeks and am really really about done with it. Aside from the nausea (which has been pretty awful in itself) I’ve had a horrible flu-like virus (negative covid test) followed by a chest infection, x2 bouts of food-poisoning type symptoms, another bad cold which has lasted almost 2 weeks and still not quite shaken off, plus 2 cold sores and a mouth full of ulcers. I feel knackered every afternoon and sometimes get a splitting headache too.

This is second pregnancy and although I had the nausea the first time around I don’t remember being this rough. I know I’m moaning but am just so run down.

Is this normal?? Was I just lucky first time? Is it because I’m also running round after a toddler? Debating whether to make an appointment with the GP as I feel like I can’t keep going like this for much longer :(

Your immune system lowers when pregnant so you will catch everything going. Also totally normal to feel completely drained. Make sure you’re taking vitamins As they may give you a little boost.

I was fortunate that lockdown happened just as I was beginning to struggle. I slept through most of lockdown or was throwing up. You have my sympathy

You poor thing, sounds rough. I’d speak to your midwife or GP if you’re concerned but as someone who suffers with mouth ulcers a lot, I really feel your pain there and find B vitamins make a big difference

UncleBunclesHouse · 04/10/2020 17:07

@Oneandabean I thought you were meant to avoid vitamin A in pregnancy?

I am taking the pregnacare vitamins and have been since I got a positive test, think they are meant to have everything in them?

@UncleBunclesHouse that was just supposed to say “as” I don’t know why it went to a capital A

I was the same as this. I really felt like it would never end but it def subsided for me about 14-15 weeks so there is light at the end of the tunnel. But my appetite for food has never really come back. My BMI is higher than it should be though so they aren't worried that I've only put on a lb since getting pregnant.(now 35 weeks)

Thanks @BeanFreak I actually stopped taking vit D when I went on the pregnacare so I’ll go back on that

Poor you. This is exactly how I felt during first trimester and it’s a running joke in our house that if I hadn’t had a positive pregnancy test I would have got my husband to take me to A&E! Feel better soon x
