I thought I was miscarrying at 6 weeks. Still bleeding but baby still there

6 weeks pregnant.
Yesterday large clots and blood. Assumed miscarrying. Went to EPU. They did a scan and baby is there measuring 3.3CRL. No heartbeat as yet. I need to go back next week for another scan. Dr said it could go either way. Any similar experiences? Honesty appreciated.

Mine didn't have a heartbeat until 7 weeks. X

Yes but I was further along. Lots of clots, looked like chopped liver.

Carried on to have a normal healthy pregnancy

I bled at 6 weeks, quite a lot. And again at 9 weeks. It was very scary and i went and had an internal scan both times. At the 9 week one i saw the heart beat.

Son is now 18!

I had bleeding from 5 weeks, assumed I was having a miscarriage, then a scan at 6 weeks showed baby with heartbeat. Kept bleeding until 11 weeks. Now a healthy 10 month old. Good luck Flowers

Goodness me, some inspiring stories there ladies. Thank you. I rested in bed with DD this morning. Came downstairs just now to make lunch and so many large clots. Just like yesterday. Praying to God that baby is okay but I just can't see how that's possible....

Sounds very similar to mine. It's pretty constant. The only thing reassuring me today is that I don't have any cramps.

Was anyone else given a reason for such large amounts of blood and clots? Dr said to me yesterday that he didn't know Flowers

Sounds like a subchroronic haematoma to me. I had this with this pregnancy and it was terrifying, especially as we've lost 4 babies over the past 4 years. I had 3 huge bleeds as you've described then it eventually dissipated by about 16 weeks. I'm now 32 weeks with a very wriggly baby!

My advice would be to rest as much as poss and avoid sex/orgasms until it's gone, as this can trigger the bleeds.

I'm not a doc/sonographer though, they should be able to see a heamatoma on a scan. I think mine was found at about 8 weeks IIRC

I’m so sorry, it’s such an awful thing to experience...I’ve bled in a similar way but am now 26 weeks and he’s still ok. They didn’t officially give me a reason until week 14, when they told me I have a subchronic haematoma. It’s still there, but it hasn’t got any bigger. I now bleed on and off with no pain. Most go away by week 20, I think I’m just unlucky, I hope yours eases soon and that your baby is ok xxxxx

I'm blown away by you all taking the time to reply to me. I really do appreciate it. I've attached my scan photos from yesterday. In case there's any SH experts or anyone has any views. So many clots today.

The reasons for the first time were never clear (I had his happen in both my pregnancies)

The second time you could see a ‘hole’ in my uterine was - so either a twin (less likely) or a sc haematoma (more likely).

Wishing you all the best, Bunnyears85. It's a horrible situation to be in.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. A couple of weeks ago I had a really bad bleed with clots when I thought I was about 5 and a half weeks. EPU wouldn't scan as it was before 6 weeks. I was convinced I'd miscarried. I had another big bleed 5 days later and was advised to go to A&E. I ended up getting admitted and having to stay the night as it was a Sunday. Scan on Monday showed - surprise 1- a viable pregnancy, as well as the source of bleeding. And surprise 2, I was 3 weeks further along than I thought (so 9 weeks). Of course now I'm on edge about further issues - but it sounds like from other people's stories that it sometimes works out even with big bleeds. Hoping that's the case for both you and me.

I’ve just started bleeding red blood today too 🙁 triage number said just to monitor. It’s so scary!

I’m 8 weeks, we just told my parents last week... I really hope it’ll all be ok. Xxx

@Cafeaulait27 if you're 8 weeks I'd suggest contacting your GP and asking for a referral to the early pregnancy unit. At that stage they should be able to see something on the scan (I was told I would have been offered a scan if I was over 6 weeks - turns out with my date mix up I was in the end...)

I bled for 12 days at about 6 weeks. I do remember dreading going to the loo wondering what would happen. I went for a scan and the nurse/doctor did some tests and told me there was no reason why I wouldn’t have a healthy pregnancy. I don’t know why I bled for all that time but I did carry on and have a healthy pregnancy x

I have had a private scan a couple of weeks ago and they said I was almost 6 weeks even though my dates were a week in front of that... there was a heartbeat but the baby was only 2.5mm which is why they dated me earlier.

I hope I can get a scan next week 🙁

I bled like this at 13 weeks. Huge gushes of blood and massive clots. Thought I'd lost him but the epu confirmed he was still there.

My son is now 7 months old!!

@Cafeaulait27 also thought to mention as it's coming up to the weekend and GPs might not be open - I called 111 when i had my second bleeding episode and as I'd bleed through a sanitary pad in an hour they advised me to go to A&E. So that's another option if you are bleeding heavily. However you might not be able to get a scan until Monday (that was the case in my hospital)

I had the same situation you describe, bleeding and clots - went in for a scan and there was the sac and the baby with no heartbeat yet (6 weeks). Went home and had more bleeding and clots, went back for a scan a few days later and it had all gone and I had miscarried. I know there are lots of stories of women bleeding and it not being a sign of miscarriage but sadly sometimes it is so it might be helpful to prepare yourself for that.

Bunnyears85 I am in same position, I am 6weeks 4days and suddenly started cramping 2hours ago with light bleeding. I have had a miscarriage before, bled solidly for 3weeks with a haematoma and had numerous scans to say pregnancy was still looking positive. Unfortunately at 10weeks I had to then go in to A&E.
next pregnancy dd who is now 2 is amazing and a complete miracle like they all are.
Found out 3 weeks ago I was pregnant we have been trying for 7months so needless to say delighted.

I am so scared of the cramps I am having along with bleeding. But reading all stories above has reassured me that this could all be OK. I really hope you are OK and wish u the best.
