Hi all! Currently 20+3 weeks pregnant and terrified of catching coronavirus.

I'm asthmatic and this is my first baby.

Anybody else at risk and worried?

Has anybody else had coronavirus while pregnant?

Many thanks Smile

Hi OP. Although pregnant women are classed as 'vulnerable', it is just a precaution really. There is currently no evidence to suggest that pregnant women will suffer more than average with CV symptoms. How bad is your asthma? I know someone with asthma who had CV a few months ago, and she had a very mild case...just a slight cough.

Taking precautions, wearing a mask, hand hygiene etc is still recommended although for peace of mind re pregnancy here are a few things to note:

  • it does seem to be able to transmit vertically (mother to foetus), but there have been no reports of congenital abnormalities)
  • in a case series, only severe COVID-19 was associated with premature birth (more likely induced in order to help the mothers recovery), but it did not cause very premature births (

I don't mean to make you more anxious OP, but I'm pregnant too and I do worry about it. Even having a fever can be dangerous in pregnancy, and potentially cause issues with the child later on that may not be detected at birth I think. I'm definitely being more cautious than I'd be if I weren't pregnant. It's awful to have to worry about it though Sad

I caught it when I was 19+5. For me, I had three bad days of muscle aches, headaches and sinus pain. Then a couple of days of feeling a bit grotty. It was a bit like flu. I was lucky I only caught it mildly. I have been extra cautious as I’m immunosuppressed as well as pregnant. Not quite sure where I caught it from. Probably the tradesmen painting the baby room.

It doesn’t seem to have had any affect on the baby. The hospital have given me extra growth scans and everything was normal at my 20 week scan. Hopefully me and the baby have some antibodies to help us over the next couple of months.

My advice was don’t read too much online about Covid symptoms etc. Everyone has a different experience and once you have it there is not much you can do apart from stay hydrated. I scared myself silly reading all the horror stories after my test result, but I was fine.
