Painful braxton hicks sign of labour?

37 weeks tomorrow and I’ve been having braxton hicks from around 24 weeks but they've never been painful.

Today each one has been extremely painful to the point I’ve had to stop what I’m doing and breath through the pain. They aren’t regular at all so I don’t think I’m in early labour but is this a sign labour is coming?

It could be. Make sure you are well hydrated and try to get some rest. I always get them very early on as well and dehydration and tiredness makes them much worse. Otherwise good luck if it's labour!

Definitely phone your maternity ward. I had the same and I went to get checked, they very quickly turned regular and I had my baby about an hour later! I had no idea I was in labour!
