What will my baby sleep in? Layers?

FTM due in a couple of weeks and confused. I have a groegg that I got for the temperature of the room which maybe I don’t need but I’m a worrier.
I’m confused as to what I put baby in to sleep and what I put under the sleep suit - do I put a long/short/sleeveless vest?
How do I know if baby is too hot or cold?
Do I use a sleepsack? I have bought a newborn one.
As you can tell I’m confused and probably over stressing.

A groegg is definitely useful. I assume they’ll be in with you in a Moses or side sleeper or something first so set up the groegg in there and find out what temperature it is at the moment. The baby will need a different number of layers depending on your room temperature.

We currently are using short sleeved vests plus sleepsuit and a cellular blanket folded in two. We have a sleeping bag but she's not quite big enough it yet and it's not cold enough yet. In a few weeks we will swap the blanket for sleeping bag.

When it was warmer we used a large muslin cloth in place of the cellular blanket and switched the vest + sleepsuit for a long sleeved vest.

We used a cellular blanket and a sleep suit last winter as our baby was also too small for a sleep bag ( born preemie size at full term). But our house was really well heated ( think amber on the grow egg). This winter we will use a high tog sleepbag and a sleepsuit. In the summer we used a sleeveless vest or just a sleepsuit.

Short sleeved vests are easier under baby grows. Mine also has a knitted cardie on. I use blankets, cotton or wool cellular until they can move a bit, then they can have a fleece one.
Just feel the babies skin on their back and chest to find out if they are warm enough and adjust blankets accordingly. If the hands are icy more blankets needed, the hands are normally slightly cooler than the body. I don’t even know the room temp but I suspect it’s colder than recommended

I have a tomee tippee swaddle and snuggle..essentially sleep bags..on there they provide guidance on what baby should wear according to the temperature to make it easier

I'm due end of October OP :) I already have a DD who was born in the middle of a heatwave! So she was just in a very slight blanket, nappies and short sleeved vests for the first week or so. This time I have sleepsuits and sleeping bags. I probably wont put it in a sleeping bag straight away, probably a blanket in a light swaddle :) gro eggs are great so that will help you alot. Just keep it simple and play it by ear, it seems you have everything ready. :) HV and MW can give advice too when they first come to see you x

Short sleeve vest under a sleep suit - we have some long sleeve ones too as our old drafty house gets pretty chilly in the middle of winter. Cellular blanket to start with and we moved to sleeping bags pretty quickly. A decent room thermometer is a good idea or if you've got the Hive system (or similar) we moved the control box to our room to keep the temperature steady in there.

For the first 8 months of baby's life we didn't use sleeping bags at all, just blankets.

Oh and don't panic if baby has cold hands, it's their core temperature that's important so you can check them with by touching their chest or back. You get used to how warm they should be pretty quickly.

My DD was born in January so it was pretty cold. She slept in a short sleeved vest and a sleepsuit, I folded the hands over to keep her hands from getting cold. She had a cellular blanket folded in 2 and because our house is quite cold we did set the heating to come on in the night for An hour to stop it feeling really cold.
We moved to sleeping bags once she was the correct weight so I think at about 6 weeks old maybe.

I have a 3 week old baby and he’s in a short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and light swaddle at the moment. I’ve ordered a 2.5 tog grosnuggle to use in the coming weeks when it’s colder and I’ll follow the guide on that for layers.

I also found it depends on your baby somewhat. My first baby was always warm and still is so he usually has a layer less than recommended but my newborn is a colder baby.

Hiya. FTM here and baby is now 9 weeks.
I blanket swaddled for a week or so after hospital. I then just done the feet to bottom of bed with blanket but found she's such a wriggle bum I kept waking up to put blankets on she kicked off.
I now use gro bags. They are a life saver! I use the Tommie tippie ones but sure others are the same. Then use the gro eggs guide as to how to dress my Lo.
She's sometimes in a long sleeve vest with a 2.5 tog but mainly because it's been so warm she's in a long sleeve in a 1 tog. I just go by the guide they give you. Definitely don't worry about her at night no more as I no she's always covered and she's not going to get anything over her head x
