Progesterone after recurrent miscarriages

I’ve had 3 miscarriages- 2 MMC at 7/8 weeks & 1 CP I had some slight bleeding in my first pregnancy but think it was after the heartbeat had stopped. Anyway I’ve had my appointment with a consultant and shes told me to take progesterone as soon as I get a bfp (currently ttc again). So my question is has anyone had recurrent miscarriages and then had a successful pregnancy with the use of progesterone? I thought it was only used for women who have had bleeding in early pregnancy? 🤷🏽‍♀️

@Sallyjo27
So sorry to hear you have had a 4th MC. Did you use progesterone in the 4th pregnancy?
I hope next time things work out for you.
My 3rd Mac was 5 months ago and it begins to become quite traumatic. I’m not even thinking about ttc again yet.

@SherHar123 hiya hun.please what private clinic did you go to. Did they also run checks before prescribing progesterone? Thanks

Cafeaulait27 · 14/02/2021 07:19

I’ve had 2 mc, I’ve been referred to recurrent mc clinic due to pcos and my mums history (4 mc in a row before me) my appointment if 25th Feb.

I’m now pregnant again, I started taking 150mg aspirin from ovulation and things seem to be going well so far (but I’m only 5+3). I’m hoping I get tested to check my progesterone on the 25th but also worried that may be too late. Wondering whether to go private maybe as my work had a scheme that covers some of the cost.

@Lizbb it was a Bupa in Swindon. I just rang the gynecology dept. I did have to ring around different clinics around my area who all gave me a different response and most said that they would need to do bloods first, which would also cost. Swindon Dr was happy to not do initial bloods or tests first and prescribed on the basis of can't hurt/might help. Wasn't cheap but totally worth it of course. Have you tried ringing around different gyne clinics?

@SherHar123 aww ok. Tbh didnt even know that was an option lol. Have started taking folic and vitamin d so will see how that goes while I wait for my period. I came off the pill.and fell pregnant few weeks later so I may of not given the body enough time to produce the right hormones

Hello! just resuscitating this thread again for anyone else who might need it. I found it useful reading, thanks all.
I've been prescribed progesterone after my 4th miscarriage - all around the 5-6 week mark so I'm hopeful that it might be useful. I'm pregnant again (5+1) and was cramping and very lightly spotting yesterday but it all stopped when I took my first cyclogest pessary. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

Weirdly I have carried one pregnancy to term, right in the middle of the ones I miscarried - it was a pretty textbook pregnancy so clearly my body is capable of doing it without medical help. It may be that progesterone levels are not the issue for me but I'm grateful to at least get the chance to see it makes a difference.

Just a hello to anyone in the same boat if you're out there?

Hi @ladycarlotta, just started reading this thread and I saw your post and it was fairly recent so thought I’d respond.

I had my 6th miscarriage in June and haven’t tried again since. I have progesterone to take after ovulation so will try that this month.

Out of curiosity do you get pregnant easily? I get pregnant first cycle every time (including with my 3.5 year old son ) but 6 pregnancies since him have ended in miscarriage (4 at 5-6 weeks, 2 missed miscarriages at 8-9 weeks).

I have had every test and would love to have answers but unfortunately don’t seem to have any issues. Am also interested to hear how everything goes for you and I wish you all the best with your pregnancy.

Hi ladies, OP here- name changed. So after my 4th miscarriage, I took progesterone from 2dpo and got pregnant that cycle & now I’m 31weeks +3. I took 2x400mg of cylogest twice a day. I also had clexane injections from a bfp and aspirin from 6 weeks x

I hope that at least someone or a few people are still watching this thread. I'd like to understand about your bleeding in early pregnancy and if or how the bleeding stopped once you started taking Progesterone? I have had 3 mc's and currently going through a 4th mc. This time, I have been prescribed 2x 400g of Cyclogest since Monday (it's Thursday now) and I am still bleeding, but it has got lighter and so far I've only seen a couple of clots. I'm not holding out much hope and I feel in my heart that I've lost this pregnancy already, but I did want to know if, for those of you who did take Progesterone, did your bleeding stop after a few days? If the pregnancy is still here, I would be 6 weeks tomorrow.

Hi, I have never started taking it after starting to bleed but there is a study that shows progesterone can help if bleeding in early pregnancy. Here is a link to the study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32609084/

I am sorry for your losses and I am thinking of you. I have had a lot of miscarriages and know how heartbreaking and soul destroying it is.

I am replying to this because I did the same thing and had success. I took progesterone from 2DPO and the second cycle of doing that had a successful pregnancy. I wish I had tried it earlier to not go through the heartbreak but my daughter is perfect so hard to wish that. I strongly feel progesterone is what helped / worked for me but only from 2DPO and only for hyperfertility.
