If you take low dose aspirin...

...did you start taking it when TTC or when you found out you were pregnant?

I’m TTC#2 and had pre-eclampsia in my last pregnancy with a low birth weight baby. I’m also over 40 now so fall into the high risk category to get it again. My GP agrees that I need to take low dose aspirin (75mg) this time around but couldn’t advise on when I should start taking it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cant comment on when to take it. I had HELLP previous pregnancy and was advised to start taking asprin from 10 weeks until 36 weeks but I have to take 150mg at night so just double check on how much you may need to take x

Can't comment on when, but was told at debriefing after birth that any previous pregnancies I would need to take aspirin throughout

Any future pregnancies that should say!

I've been told to take 150mg every evening were I to TTC again by a top consultant with a special interest in pregnancy loss.

I’m on low dose aspirin due to BMI so can’t comment on your specific circumstances but I was told to take it from 12 weeks onwards as that’s when the placenta takes over. Are you able to phone your local community midwives for advice? I know some places have a midwife number listed on their GP website for any enquiries 😊

I started 75mg a day after BFP but that was my choice from research after 2 miscarriages. Then at 12 week scan it was doubled to 150mg by midwife due to my age (40-ancient 🙄) as apparently they now recommend 150mg and that's still classed low dose x

Thank you all. I will try to call the hospital consultant I was under last time, though it took me 2 months to get my placenta analysis results out of them so I'm not too hopeful! I'll also try the community midwife as suggested.

I take blood thinners from the day I find out I'm pregnant to 12 weeks, then low dose aspirin from then until a week or so until due.

Try the midwife but if I had to guess I would say take it when ttc. Lots of people take a baby aspirin every day anyway for other reasons.

I was consultant led from the get-go and was advised to take it as soon as a heartbeat was established. They saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks (I have scans every two to three weeks) and I've been taking it since then. They want me to keep on taking it till a few days before induction. I'm 30 weeks now and doing fine, blood pressure fine. They told me that starting early has more impact on preventing or delaying pre eclampsia than if you start after 12 weeks. No idea why I had to wait for the heartbeat though, didn't ask.

I have recurrent miscarriages so I started low dose aspirin 2 days after ovulation. I'm now 10 weeks pregnant and all going well so far.

Thanks everyone. I bought some 75mg tablets today in readiness. I'm only on CD2 at the moment so have some time to get hold of the midwife/consultant.
