Diet in pregnancy

My diet has been so bad during my pregnancy, I try eating fruit but barely touch vegetables and mainly eat crap. I make sure I take pregnancy vitamins everyday, is that enough to ensure he gets everything he needs?

I would try and eat more veg, not just for the baby but for you! It will probably make you feel good too 🙂

Could you try some recipes that look really tasty but have lots of veg in them?

Its also better for your digestion to have lots of fibre from fruit and veg. I think with supplements they are supposed to be on top of a diet which includes fruit and veg etc, but taking the supplements is definitely better than nothing!

Hi OP Im exactly the same!
Before pregnancy I couldn't get enough of savoury foods and tried to have veg with lunch and dinner but now all I crave is sugar! I do have a bit of fruit but it just dosent cut it. Luckily winter is coming so can hopefully eat lots of veg soups to make up for the rubbish consumed over summer :) baby will take everything they need from whatever you eat though :)

Which trimester are you in? The first is so so hard. I was really lucky that for me this time it was in early lockdown and I'd preordered shopping etc a week ahead for delivery and only had healthy food available and didn't really want to go to the shops to get an alternative! The idea made me feel sick but I found it wasn't that bad once I started eating it

It's become so much easier in the second and third trimesters although still fancy rubbish from time to time

Hi @bubbles519 - it's so hard isn't it, when all you want is the bad stuff. I'm early still (8 weeks) but already piling the weight on and I'm intent on not letting it continue as it makes me feel so rubbish.

What about a healthy juice or smoothie in the morning? My OH made me them throughout my first pregnancy (needless to say he hasn't done it this time round) and I felt amazing. it also kick starts the day so you want to stick with healthy stuff if that makes sense. A few nice recipes I use -

Spinach, frozen pineapple, 1/2 avocado, 1-2 dates and some oat/almond milk with ice. (so yummy)

Banana and berries - not as healthy as others but lots of berries are really good for you and baby. Top up with milk or yoghurt.

Kale, pear/apple and mango. Lots of ice and a bit of water.

Orange, carrot, apple and ginger. This is v good and the ginger helps unsettled stomachs/sickness.

Agree with above comment about soups too. Even casseroles. Anything just to sneak some goodness in.

I'm good at giving the advice, but I need to follow it too! Walking is good for us too, even if its ten minutes round the block. x

Sometimes if you’re craving sugar it can mean you’re dehydrated, so always drink a big glass first before you reach for the treats! X
