Measuring 1 week behind at 7 weeks - told to prepare for the worst ;(

I had my first appointment with my OB yesterday which included my first US. I thought I was 7w4d based on LMP. Had to do a vaginal scan as couldn’t see much on my tummy scan.

Baby was measuring at 6w4d... so 1 week behind. It had a heart beat of 120.

My OB said it could go either way and to prepare myself for the worst. I’m due for another US next Tuesday.

I’m so scared I’m going to be told there’s no heart beat and it’s a MMC.

I couldn’t stop crying yesterday and I’m struggling to get my head around this and the wait is killing me.

I hope everything’s ok and maybe i ovulated late? I don’t know what to think

I'm sorry I know the waiting is excruciating. You can still have hope, no one can take that x

I was measured at 6+2 when I was sure I was 7+2. I had another scan a few days later and baby was still a week behind (6+5) but developing well. I paid for a private scan yesterday where baby should have been measuring 7+5 and baby has had a growth spurt - is now measuring 8+3. Which is a day ahead of my LMP dates 🤷 when they are this tiny it is so difficult to get an accurate measurement so try not to worry.
I have everything crossed for you X x

Honestly, early scans aren’t all that accurate and quite often ovulation is out by a few days. Unless you’ve had bleeding or they were concerned about the heartrate, it’s probably not an ‘expect the worst’ situation.

I've read so many accounts on here where women have said they're measuring slightly behind and then it catches up and everything is fine. If it has a heartbeat then it's good news. Hope all works out for you

I'm astounded that a trained medical professional would say that when they've found a heartbeat, and you've had no symptoms of miscarriage!

Bear in mind, at that gestation they measure a matter of mm. All it takes is you ovulating a few days later and their measurements being a little bit out!

Also, the odds of miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat is just 4%.

There really is nothing else you can do at the moment but wait and worry, and I'm sorry you have to go through this. This is why the NHS doesn't scan before 12 weeks unless there are signs of a problem, because it causes so much unnecessary stress!

I went for a similar scan at the beginning, I thought I was 7 weeks but they told me I was barely 6! It did have a heart beat and that was considered a very good sign so I don't understand why they told you to prepare for the worst. In my case they congratulated me..

I’m so sorry if it’s bad news - but I would remain hopeful. I was sent for a 12 weeks scan based on my LMP but I had only JUST had a positive test. I was not long off the pill and I told them my cycles were about 50 days! But they didn’t take this into account. Low and behold ultrasound showed a little sack measuring 6 weeks and a heartbeat and lots of worry followed for the next 6 weeks. That sack is now a 17months old little girl! Hopefully you ovulated late and all is well ☺️ Xx

Have some hope! 👍🏽 I went to what I thought was my 9 week scan last month and I was measuring 7+4, now 11+2 awaiting my 12 week scan next week. LMP is not always correct as you have my ovulated early or late xx

I went for an early scan at 6w 3d. When I got there, I was measuring under 6 and they could only see a gestation sac and yolk sac. Was booked in for another scan in 3 weeks time. Most nerve wrecking 3 weeks. However when I went, baby had a growth spurt and measured 9w1d (2d behind my calculated last period) and a strong heartbeat. Its so small in the early weeks its hard to get any accurate dating done. Keep positive, although I know its easier said than done x
