3 miscarriages, can anyone recommend any private hospital/clinics for investigation in london

Wondering if anyone knows of or has used any private hospital/clinics or consultants for investigating miscarriages?

Had a miscarriage about 6 years ago very early on, and 2 within the last 4 months, one at 5 weeks and one at 8 weeks, getting pregnant isn't an issue and has happened first time every time we have tried. I have read a threw threads which say people go through the NHS but then go privately where more extensive tests are done when the NHS don't find any issues, but what to cut the middle bit out and just go straight to private for normal and extensive tests rather than wait for the NHS first, as I'm eager to get find out what's wrong than live with the thought for any longer that this just might not happen for us, any help, advice recommendations will really help xxx

I saw this doctor www.novafertilityuk.com/lamiya_mohiyiddeen.html Like you I had 3 miscarriages. I got pregnant again quickly and they prescribed medication to help stop me miscarrying again. I'm now 11 weeks.

I had just started investigations with www.createfertility.co.uk but when I got pregnant naturally they referred me.

They're in Manchester, but my appointment was over video call.

I would highly recommend Dr George Ndukwe at Zita West clinic in Marylebone. was recommended to see him after having 4 miscarriages (al between 5 & 9 weeks) by a friend who works in the fertility industry. I had a few months of treatment with him and then fell pregnant with my now-toddler.

He can come across like a bit of a dodgy salesman, but that's just his way. The treatments they offer are widely offered in other countries but not so much here, but he has one of the highest rates of success of a fertility clinic in the UK.

On top of the treatment we were given free access to their nutritionist which my husband and I both believe made a huge difference for us.

I'm currently having treatment with him again and am pregnant with (hopefully) my second child.

Lesley Reagan is the leading miscarriage expert in the Uk, she runs St Mary's clinic in London which includes the main UK research labs. She wrote a book which is really helpful in describing all the different possibilities for miscarriage, research so far and treatment recommendations - and where that treatment hasn't worked.

It might be harder for you to have a diagnosis as the mcs don't seem concurrent if I read your post correctly. It's also possible the issue is with your OH.

There isn't a lot of funding for this in the nhs hence only those with 3 concurrent mcs get referred for tests (or other significant circumstances)

Dr Nataly Atalla at the London Bridge Hospital is great. Her bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired but shes very effective.

I was seen by Raj Rai (he works to Lesley Regan at St Mary's on the NHS) but you can see him privately at the Lindo wing or on Harley st. He helped me get my little boy who is now 5. Seeing him again with this pregnancy. I highly rate him. His manner is lovely. He is a caring and extremely patient man. I saw Lesley Regan under St Mary's on the NHS and she was efficient but her approach was more brusk.
St Mary's and Raj, are experts in recurrent miscarriage particularly blood clotting issues. They will do tests that others don't do, but also the way you do the tests that others do is important and they follow the latest protocols (often the NHS doesn't).

@Yukka @KinderWild thank you both for your advice, I have since spoken to my GP and I have asked to be referred to st Mary's hoping to get one of the consultants you have mentioned. Did you hear about them through the NHS or privately ?

I went to Raj Rai privately after my second late first trimester loss. After my 3rd (chromosome issue) I requested a referral to at Mary's on the NHS. This wasn't for the tests as I'd already had them done, even though they did redo all the tests. It was for the care they provide women who get pregnant after recurrent loss. Which is amazing. They do reassurance scans and offered amazing personal support. Everyone was extremely kind. Research has shown this can benefit women who've experienced multiple losses.

I saw Lesley at St Mary's. Everyone who works there will follow the same protocols and latest research. There is also a book Lesley Regan has written which I poured over 'misscarriage: what every woman needs to know'

Sorry didn't answer your question. I found the book first and read that cover to cover. I found out about St Mary's from researching Lesley. And then Raj Rai was highly recommended on a few Mumsnet threads and he's worked with Lesley for years.
I should say I was fairly confident my issue was blood clotting. I have other symptoms which suggest sticky blood syndrome or something similar.

No advise regarding private treatment but I saw the NHS and they found no reason for my 3 miscarriages. BUT the consultant I got has a particular interest in this and was part of a study called the prism trial. It found giving progesterone to women who have had recurrent ie, 3 or more miscarriages, had a significant positive outcome which is the first time they have ever found this does actually work for us. If you are eager to try something in the interim I would suggest asking for this to have. I started it as soon as I got my positive test and didn't stop until 16 weeks. I was also given vit D because I was deficient ( which they have found is linked too) and at 12 weeks I was given small dose of aspirin for daily use which I'm still on and I've made it to 33 weeks now. @kwastell - what medication did they give you after 3 miscarriages? Was it specific to you and your results or just to be on the safe side? I've had 3 mc and my local NHS trust are saying if i get pregnant again they'll give me progesterone only if i experience bleeding (which i never do). I keep having missed miscarriages.

Bwfore you spend a lot of money on private investigations it may well be worth following the nhs route first. And also remember that sometimes there is no cause, just bad luck.
I had 3 mcs. NHS investigations did find no cause and I was able to go on to easily have 2 dc with no treatment as it was just one of those things. Some of us are just unlucky.

I did end up going private to see professor Lesley, after a few recommendations and also reading her book, I did two blood tests, ultrasound and also gene testing to see if there was anything hereditary, blood tests fine, scan fine, but I have inherited something from both my parents which is a mutation gene which make me prone to blood clots, heart attacks and strokes, which she said is unlikely to effect early pregnancy more late pregnancy, but next time I fall pregnant she would need to see me again to monitor me, I may need injections or maybe just aspirin to thin my blood while pregnant. She is amazing and does know her stuff, only thing I will say her consultations felt very rushed, I didn’t feel I had time to take in my results and asks questions, just left me with more questions and no answers, which I didn’t like as the last consultation cost us £280 and the call lasted 8minutes! So just felt very rushed, but we felt we didn’t have a choice other than to go private, as NHS due to covid, has a huge backlog and this isn’t their priority, I had my miscarriage back in the summer, I have yet to have an appointment from the NHS to investigate, hope that helps x

@Notgivingup2 I've attached the medication I was prescribed. It was based on my history but I hadn't had any tests done (was in the process when I got pregnant again).

I now have a 4 week old baby so it worked for me.

Mr Hassan Shehata does incredible work and helped me have my 2 children after 5 losses. I also saw St Mary’s briefly but found they couldn’t do anything for me as I wasn’t found to have anything they tested for. Mr Shehata found me to have a high level of natural killer cells and treated me for this. It’s good st Mary’s have found something though. Hope it all works out for you.
