Has anyone had heparin injections after labour??

Just been told I will need them due to my bmi but worried about injecting myself! Anyone got any experience to reassure me?!

You can ask for your partner to be trained how to use them instead of you.

I've given myself hundreds of injections due to IVF and being on clexane during pregnancy and after and honestly the fear of doing it is much worse than what it's actually like. Most partners dither a bit because they don't want to hurt you so it's easier, quicker, less painful to do yourself a lot of the time

I had them after a hysterectomy. It wasn't too bad, but I'm a nurse anyway.

I had them after a section. I'm terrified of needles and prone to passing out.
I wasn't told I would need injections until I was given a box of them as I left the hospital. I freaked out. They wouldn't even show my husband how to do it, said as I had been discharged they weren't allowed to.
The only thing that got me through doing it was the thought of getting a blood clot and leaving my baby without a mum.
I refused to let my husband do it in case he hurt me so ended up doing it myself.
The needles were quite short and didn't hurt too much but the actual liquid stings like mad. Won't lie - it hurt. But it has to be done so I just got it over with!

I did. Got my partner to do them. I don't remember them being particularly unpleasant but I did have a rough trot after my caesarean, so it may have just blended into the general awfulness. 😂

I’m on them now during pregnancy as had a previous blood clot following surgery a while back. I get my partner to them for me as I’m ok with needles as long as I don’t look. I would get really worked up for the first couple of weeks before having them as they did sting quite a lot and cause lumps and bruising, however I just became used to having them and they seem to hurt a lot less now and the reactions have gone to a bare minimum. They really don’t bother me anymore!

I had them - they were fine. Hardly felt them.

You just count down from 20 and it'll be done before you get to zero. First three times are unpleasant. Then it's grand.

I have a blood condition so had hem all through pregnancy and 6 weeks afterwards. It's a bit weird at first but you get used to it. Top tips:
Squeeze the flesh and stab the needle in, don't try to be gentle with it!
Keep holding the flesh until you've emptied the syringe then let go.
Don't rub afterward, this causes bruising.
It can sting a little bit not for long.
Use a different site each day to allow recovery.

I had to for six weeks. After the first few it gets easier. You inject into your belly fat, it’s a small needle and it just stings a bit.

They are really not too bad. I had them after my second section. Just squeeze together the skin on your thigh and do it. It’s mildly nippy but such a short needle. I just cracked on with it first thing each day so I wasn’t worrying. Good luck!

With my second I was instructed to do them in my belly fat, with my third an amazing nurse said that I could inject into my thighs (alternating between each leg) and the difference was incredible. I had to do 6 weeks due to bmi and I would never have coped if I was injecting into my stomach. It was so much less painful in the leg and I did them myself whereas I had to have my husband do the ones into my stomach. Definitely ask them to show you how to inject into the thigh!

I was on clexane for a couple of weeks after birth and I'd compare it to a minor bee sting. It doesn't hurt, just a strange sensation the actual medicine gives off when it goes in, like a tingly stinging feeling in the area. I did it in my stomach, totally fine, small needle and not painful (and I'm scared of needles). Don't rub it as somebody else said, it feels as if it's bruised for a bit afterward.

Second doing them in the thigh if you can - found it hurt much less. And pinch a good section of skin before putting the needle in and release before taking it out (DH forgot to do the release bit the first time for me and really hurt!!)

I did after I had ankle surgery a few years ago. It was honestly fine. Pinch the fat and shove it in!

I did them into my buttocks! Much less painful than tummy.

I did for a week or two post labour. Can't remember why though.

I found it easiest in my tummy. But then I could get a good pinch of flesh there, while my thighs weren't quite so co-operative. Plus I still had some horrendous bruises on my thighs from where I'd been jabbed by nurses on the ward.

Deep breath in, then exhale while you jab. Stay relaxed. Keep the needle at 90 degrees to the flesh. Smoothly in, then out. Don't hesitate. Do not rub it afterwards. Do them yourself. Remember it's not for too long.

I had to after a c section. I don't remember it hurting I jagged into my thigh. I did bruise badly after them but midwife said that was normal.

I couldn't do it, I'm bad enough with injections at the best of times. My husband did them for me.

Me, dd is 7 days old. The best way is to not overthink it, grab a chunk of thigh and just get on with it. The stuff stings but the needle isnt too bad.i think the thought of it is actually worse than doing it and you get used to it quite quickly. I've been given 10 days worth
