Second hand next to me crib - what do you think?

Slightly odd question. I’m looking to get a chicco next to me For when our baby is born and have noticed lots for a great price second hand. Given baby will only use for a short time I’m trying to be frugal!
Just worrying about safe sleep - we would obviously replace the mattress on a second hand one but wondering if there are any other possible issues with getting one second hand? Is it the sort of thing that is just better to buy new as a precaution?
Thoughts and opinions welcome! Xx

It'll be fine as long as you get a new mattress.

Perfectly fine as long as it is in good condition with nothing broken or missing and you get a new mattress. I'm sure it will be in good condition as it's probably only been used for six months. If it doesn't come with the instructions then you'll probably be able to get them online.

Make sure it comes from a smoke free house.

Personally I'd only feel comfortable with a new one ( not that I have money to waste).
I'd like to know it's secure, no small bits missing and I wouldn't want to take the sellers word for it. Unless I knew the family, in which case, I'd probably feel differently.

I hired our NCT crib that was the same kind of crib. So lots of people had used it. We washed the washable parts and got a new mattress. You can get them on eBay really reasonably

We bought a second hand one - the girl selling it to me was so sweet and helpful.

The mattress was in great condition so we kept it but we bought new sheets of course

They are used for such a short time so often have lots of life left in them!

Just give it a really good check over - all the instructions/pics/videos will b available online so you have something to compare it too.

We had one on loan from a friend. We just stripped it down, shoved everything that was fabric in the washing machine, hand scrubbed the frame and got a new mattress. We only used it for six months so we didn't think we needed to buy new.

We got our Chicco next to me second hand from eBay. We bought a new mattress though. Same for the cot that he's in now.
As long as you get a new mattress and clean everything I don't see a problem.

Chirpychirpy3 · 12/09/2020 14:38

I borrowed one from a friend and just bought a new mattress. Dd only slept in it for 3 weeks before I gave up and coslept so I’m glad I didn’t buy a brand new one.

If you are buying unseen do just check how many babies have been in it, mine went through 2 babies back to back so had more wear than others might have done but would probably be up for the same price. If you are looking on eBay, etc you’ll be able to tell which have been well used Smile

SassyPants87 · 12/09/2020 21:55

I bought a second hand one. Just got a new mattress. Make sure the wooden board is still there if not the only place you can get a mattress with the wooden board is from Chicco website directly

wigglerose · 12/09/2020 22:00

I bought a second hand one from a smoke free house. Haven't used it yet but it was used by one baby and it looks brand new. We're going to get a new mattress and I think it'll be ok.

peachypetals · 13/09/2020 03:26

@Gerdticker you really should have got a new mattress.
