Bleeding at 6 weeks

Greenleaves20 · 09/09/2020 17:39

I’ve started having some bright red bleeding this afternoon. I’m 6 weeks pregnant and have had a frozen embryo transferred from ivf for this pregnancy . No clots or cramping but it’s quite a bit of red blood covering the tissue when I wipe and into the loo (sorry if tmi). I’ve phoned the clinic and they said to come in for a scan tomorrow morning and bleeding can happen and be ok, but I’m thinking it’s a miscarriage. Any positive stories from anyone who has had similar?

@Greenleaves20 thank you for this post & good to see some positive stories. How are you doing? Glad the first check up went well. I’m just under 6 weeks & I’m bleeding heavier than spotting. Absolutely riddled with fear and anxiety. Was it your normal GP you called for a next day appointment? xx

Greenleaves20 · 13/09/2020 14:50

@MJM1608 thanks. I’m still having a bit of light pink spotting but that’s been it so far, but I’m living in constant fear of more bleeding now. That and the nausea are really getting me down.
I went to my fertility clinic for the scan as I was due to see them the following week anyway as it’s standard to have an early scan after fertility treatment. They said any further problems to go through GP for a referral to the early pregnancy unit so I think that’s what you’d need to do. Try to stay positive, I know it’s so hard but there are lots of positive stories of bleeding heavily and the pregnancy still being ok xx

@LBTM thanks, yes I think I should see my GP actually. The worry and anxiety are pretty bad and it wouldn’t be good if it got worse. I’m going to take this week off work and go from there x

@Greenleaves20 thanks for your response & have everything crossed for you!! I know how you feel, so hard to keep positive but keep going! Must have been amazing to see the heartbeat? When are you due? I’ve got my appt with the fertility clinic a week Thursday, I might call them tomorrow & ask if my appt can be moved forward. Thanks for your advice, feeling much better after reading this thread xxx

Greenleaves20 · 13/09/2020 15:11

@MJM1608 it was amazing to see the heartbeat, and there’s lots of research to say that if a heartbeat is seen then a lot of pregnancies will be ok after that point! So there are reasons to be positive. Due date is 5th May, what about you? I’m sure they will see you if you’ve had bleeding. Let us know how it goes xx

@MJM1608 and sorry, I just assumed you hadn’t had fertility treatment as you’re on the general pregnancy forum, but that is a silly assumption to make! Did you have IVF? Xx

I started bleeding between 5-6 weeks and had a scan that revealed a haematoma at 7 weeks. 10 + 4 now and still have a tiny bleed now and then (usually after a big poo Grin). Sonographer and midwife at my scan said I was likely to bleed more from the haematoma so I've put it down to that. I suspect it's the same for you. Like you, the nausea and now sickness has been shocking but reassuring! Keep hydrated as straining can aggravate the bleeding.

Cmini · 13/09/2020 15:24

Meant to say my haematoma was only small

MJM1608 · 13/09/2020 15:24

@Greenleaves20 that’s amazing to hear - really pleased for you! Have just been to the toilet to more blood & clots 😭 what a rollercoaster of emotions after being on cloud 9 this morning! No need to apologise, have not been through fertility treatment. We booked a general fertility MOT at the private fertility clinic, an hour before my DH’s appt I got my BFP! So my appt has turned in to a private scan (hopefully!). Is this your first round of IVF? My nephew is an IVF baby & a happy little 4 month old 😊 due date roughly 12th May so perhaps I’m just short of 6 weeks all going well. Really appreciate your support - much needed! xxxx

Greenleaves20 · 13/09/2020 18:26

@MJM1608 oh no, it really is such a rollercoaster. Hopefully you’ll be able to get a scan this week. I’ve got a LB from a previous IVF cycle and this was a frozen transfer.
12th May is really close to my date! Hopefully you’ll get more info at your scan xx

@Cmini thanks, I will try and drink more as I haven’t been v good at that! Just not feeling like it which is counterproductive really. The Dr said she couldn’t see a haematoma but could see where I’d bled from... I sort of wish there was a haematoma as at least that would be a reason!

@MJM1608 = just going to send u the link to this in the other thread! glad u have seen this, defo gives some hope.
@Greenleaves20 srry you've been having such an emotional rollercoaster of a time, keeping everything crossed it all goes well from here x

MJM1608 · 14/09/2020 14:17

@Greenleaves20 @Bazshaz Sadly this pregnancy wasn’t for me and I had an early miscarriage. I’m really relieved it was found sooner rather than later. It’s crazy to go from such a high to such a low in the space of a few days. The nurse said there was nothing showing in the scan. Thankfully she checked my ovaries & follicles which she said looked good. Hopefully get my BFP soon. Wishing you both the best for the next 9 months & thanks for the support ❤️ Xxx

Greenleaves20 · 14/09/2020 18:17

@MJM1608 I’m so sorry, that’s really awful news. I hope you’re able to get some rest these next few days and weeks and take each day one at a time. I’m sure your BFP will happen soon xx

Hi everyone, I hope it's okay to join in. I'm 11w2d and experienced some bleeding this morning. I spoke to a GP who said they would refer me to the early pregnancy unit within the next few hours, and that I would be seen by the EPU within the next few days (they will call me and tell me when to go in). Is it quite normal to have to wait this long to be seen when bleeding? My other option seems to be to go to A&E but it's getting late in the day now and I don't want to risk sitting in an A&E department at the local Covid hospital if I'm just going to be told to go back later in the week. Feeling worried and not sure what to do.

bez91 · 15/09/2020 14:22

@BB2021 Hi, have you had your booking appointment yet? If so can you ring your midwife or women's health unit at your local hospital or birth centre for advise?

BB2021 · 15/09/2020 14:27

@bez91 hi yes I have had my booking appointment but the local midwife unit only deals with 18 weeks and over. I tried calling them about sickness a few weeks ago and they told me to go to A&E or call 111 as they don't deal with anything before 18 weeks. I've tried calling the EPU to check they've received my referral but there's no answer on the line.

bez91 · 15/09/2020 14:36

@BB2021 that's pants 😩 I know everywhere is different, I started bleeding at 5 weeks over the weekend. Still not sure if a miscarriage or not, got to take another test in a week or so but the local EPU were great on the phone.

All I can suggest is keep trying them unless you feel the bleeding is so severe that you need emergency visit to A&E, sending best wishes x

BB2021 · 15/09/2020 18:34

@bez91 thanks for your message. I didn't get a callback and their number was out action all afternoon. Luckily the bleeding was over and done with in the space of an hour, so not a huge worry. I just would have liked the peace of mind today. I'm surprised the services are so overrun that a bleeding pregnant woman is just left alone at home wondering if their baby is okay. It's a horrible position to be in.

Greenleaves20 · 15/09/2020 19:24

@BB2021thats really not great that you’ve been left wondering all day. I’m glad things have settled and I hope they contact you with a scan appointment soon x

@BB2021 don’t think that tagged you properly

I had some light pink spotting mixed in with discharge this week and I am also 6 weeks (7 weeks on Tuesday). It then stopped, and then I had a bit of brown discharge after sex yesterday which is still there a bit today. I’ll be honest I’ve been put off sex a bit, as it always seems to make me bleed since I’ve been pregnant! I just feel really fragile and bleeding after sex is not pleasant.

I gave my early scan tomorrow evening and it literally couldn’t come quick enough.
