Has anyone else developed skin tags in pregnancy?

I’ve never had skin tags before and since being pregnant I’ve got one on my tummy and one on my neck. I’m only 10 weeks so I’m hoping I don’t get many more throughout. The only reason I’m assuming it’s pregnancy related is because I’ve googled it and it can be down to hormonal changes, commonly when pregnant.

Has anyone else had this? This is my third baby and I’ve not had this with my first two, I’m worried I’ll end up with loads that won’t disappear post birth.

I had loads. I pinched the little ones off with (clean) fingernails. They went after birth.

Butteredbagette · 09/09/2020 16:27

Have you been checked for gestational diabetes?

User3627290 · 09/09/2020 16:27

Yes, lots on my neck! I pinch them off if they irritate me.

Whatthedoodle · 09/09/2020 16:30

@BlenheimOrange @User3627290 glad I’m not the only one! My tummy one is too sore to pull off but any more I notice il try and nip in the bud. I never realised this was a pregnancy issue at all!

@Butteredbagette I’m due to be tested at 26 weeks as my mum has diabetes - is this something that relates to it? I’m only 10 weeks at the minute so lots of time before the test!

Its just that skintags are more common in Diabetics. It could just be pregnancy hormones though. Perhaps mention them the next time you see a doctor.

jaffacakesareabiscuit · 09/09/2020 16:53

Yeah I ended up with loads around my neck and chest area, they haven't gone away after birth but I think some have got smaller.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/09/2020 16:55

Skin tags are common with insulin resistance. I had loads and had no idea of the link. I now follow a ketogenic diet and am removing the skin tags with a snazzy device I bought off amazon. It will be interesting to see if they come back or not.

Yup, loads of tiny ones on neck.
First pregnancy I got hyperpigmentation on face, dark nipples and dark belly button but no skin tags.
Been negative glucose on urine tests so far and now 35w so not had glucose tolerance test.
Just another joy of pregnancy Grin

4 really big painful ones where you really wouldn't want them. Blush and I still have them.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 09/09/2020 17:03

I get them all over my neck. And no, I am not diabetic, pre-diabetic or have PCOS. I burn them off with a gizmo from Amazon.

BaronessBomburst · 09/09/2020 17:04

I had quite a few on my neck and several large ones under one armpit. No diabetes. A trainee doctor at my local surgery removed them all for me when DS was a few months old.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 09/09/2020 17:04

I've had mine removed and had them come back so now just burn them off.

Whiffle77 · 09/09/2020 17:51

Yes ive got lots in odd places! Belly button, under boobs and armpits! Midwife says quite common and they like sweatier places I think 😬 hoping they go once baby is born

Frankiegoes · 09/09/2020 18:00

Yes I got one in the groin area. What’s the best way to remove?

Bluejayway91 · 09/09/2020 19:05

I've had one develop since pregnancy. Right on my areola! I haven't tried removing it.

I'm getting tested for diabetes in a couple of weeks. Hopefully all good.

Keepingcomfy · 09/09/2020 19:08

I have one on my nipple. I showed my midwife at last appointment and she said she'd inform my GP but it's nothing to worry about. I don't like it though 😕

WhatWouldPennyDo · 09/09/2020 19:30

Glad it’s not just me! Have developed a load of tiny ones on my neck and in my armpits. Very strange.

Whatthedoodle · 09/09/2020 20:26

Thank you so much everyone I suddenly feel a lot more normal! I didn’t realise how common it was. I can’t believe how different each pregnancy can be. With my two previous pregnancies I really didn’t get much in the way of symptoms, I was jus tired. This time it’s fatigue, debilitation nausea, hunger, dizzy spells, discharge and now skin tags. Whatever will be next!

@Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd does it hurt burning them off?

I’ve picked at the ones I have and they’re painful. At first I thought it was dead skin and then when I tried to just pull it off it was so sore and I realised it wasn’t actually dead skin!

I’ve also just noticed another one on my neck!!

I’ll link to the kind of machine I imagine both me and @Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd use.

I love mine so much! It doesn’t particularly hurt but you do get sparks and the smell of burning flesh 🤣

PintOfBovril · 09/09/2020 20:30

Yes I got loads around my neck whilst pregnant and they seemed to fall off after I had my son. I also got a big one under my arm that won't shift so I'm having it lasered off so that I can shave my underarms safely again.

Burning flesh, mmm my favourite! Grin

But seriously, I might have to give it a go! Does it work on the really tiny ones or do you need something to get hold of? Mine are so tiny only 1mm or so but I have about 20 of them on each side of my neck Confused

Canyouseewhyichangedmynamw · 09/09/2020 21:17

Oooooh what’s the snazzy device called please ? Asking for a friend. Me. I’m the friend. I’m asking for me.

ladykuga · 09/09/2020 21:34

I had one in my pubic area. Most annoying. If you can reach them easily, tie the bottom tightly with some cotton thread. Should drop off in about a week.

lavenderlove · 09/09/2020 22:01

I got quite a few on my vulva Blush they were awful and I was quite concerned about them but by the time I had given birth, healed up and finally got round to looking down there again they had all disappeared!
