Gestational sac and yolk sac but no baby

I have been trying for a baby for over 18 months but with little to no periods I really didn't think it would happen. I had a miscarriage around 7 years ago and a little girl who is now 6 years old.
I went for an early scan today at around 6 weeks (not 100% as I don't have periods to date) The gestational sac and yolk sac were both visible on the screen but no fetal pole. He measured the sac which he said measured early 6 weeks! So has told me to come back in two weeks time to be re scanned. The lady did tell me that it happens all the time and not to stress but with my previous pregnancy I got to see the heartbeat at 6 weeks so I'm not really nervous now that the pregnancy isn't going to continue and that there isn't a baby growing!!
Has anyone been through a similar experience?? What was the outcome ?
I just need some reassurance as this is going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life.

I had an early scan at 6 weeks to rule out ectopic and there was no fetal pole. They told me to come back a week later and there was a fetal pole and heart beat. Try not to worry yourself. You're still early and everyone is different 😊

A few days can make such a difference at that stage. All it would take would be for you to ovulate a couple of days late, and the heartbeat won't have started yet.

Particularly as you aren't regular, it's likely that you're earlier than you thought. Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Hi @happymmummy I recently went for an emergency scan at 5+6 and saw a gestational sac and yolk sac but no baby.

They said this was in keeping with the dates and arranged a scan for two weeks time, I had the follow up scan on Friday was so relieved to see a heartbeat and a little gummy bear shaped baby, I couldn't believe the difference in just two weeks and could see the little arm and leg buds and everything.

I know the wait is awful so fingers crossed it goes quickly and that all is well.

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was asked to come back after 2 weeks however wasn't able to get an appointment until 3 week. Since my scan my sickness has been horrendous and I was nearly hospitalised. So trying to keep positive and looking forward to going back on Saturday!

@happymmummy although it literally feels like the worst wait in the world try not to worry, so many people have been in this position before and had positive outcomes! I went in thinking I was 7+ weeks, however at the scan I measured just under 6 with gestational sac, yolk sac nothing else, went back last weekend and had a healthy little bean and got to listen to the heartbeat ☺️ best of luck to you!!xx

Thank you all for your reply's !!
I'm praying for a positive outcome... just took me by surprise as at previous scans the fetal pole had been present at 6 weeks but I guess every pregnancy is different !! Fingers crossed for you all to if your still waiting it's the worst feeling ever !!!
I think I just needed to hear some positive stories to get me through lol x

I had a scan at 5.5 weeks because of some bleeding. There was just an empty sac, not even a yolk sac. 10 days later at the rescan there was a heartbeat. 6 weeks is really too early to tell definitively which unfortunately leaves a very anxious waiting time until you can be scanned again. Hope you get good news.

I think these places profiteer from women’s anxieties and create stresses that don’t need to happen. There’s a good reason the NHS don’t scan too early unless clinically indicated. Quite a few of the private services don’t even have qualified sonographers, sadly.

Hope all works out.

@happymmummy had scan yesterday which showed I was 9w 1d so baby has caught up with dates. We saw the heartbeat and she took a video of it too. Still In shock but such a relief that all is okay. Just got to wait until my 12 week scan now x

happymmummy · 06/09/2020 21:07

@Spinksy9 aww I'm so pleased for you 😍 it's such a relief isn't it !! Well congratulations 😊 lesson learnt I think... don't book a scan to early... it causes a lot of stress haha ! X

@happymmummy yes ill def be leaving it until later next time. We only booked one due to a chemical the month before and with it being our first, wasn't sure if OH would be able to attend scans. But looks like he will (: I wish you well with everything! Think we are both due in April!x
