10 percentile baby measurement

Hello, I’ve just gone for my 28 week midwife appointment and been tape measure measured and plotted to be 10% on the graph, which is showing baby to be small. I’ve been booked into a scan for tomorrow. Anyone else plotted small? Should I be worried? I don’t smoke, drink or take drugs. I’ve not been eating loads but eating normally. I have been sick quite a bit. Just really worried :(

Hi! This happened to me 4 weeks ago at my 28 week midwife check, also went for a scan the next day and baby was measuring perfectly and was put on the 50th centile, had my 32 week midwife app yesterday and same thing again so another scan this afternoon to check baby is still growing at the correct rate, some ladies just carry smaller than others even though baby is growing beautifully tucked up inside, try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know!) I'm sure all will be fine xx

@Woodcottage1 @Lexi92 I was measured at 26 weeks and was plotted just below 10th percentile but I wasn't sent for a scan? I even asked at my consultant appointment the other day and she said it was fine aswell. Maybe it was because it was earlier than 28 weeks?

It kept happening to be throughout my first pregnancy. I’m quite slim and before I got pregnant was very active (marathon running) so as the baby grew my belly didn’t appear to expand at the same rate. It was so so uncomfortable. Once it got to the point where they started to measure the bump I was consistently measuring small and sent for a growth scan after every single appointment. At one appointment my bump had shrunk (it hadn’t she just measured so inaccurately!). My baby arrived at 39 weeks on the 50th centile very healthy no issues. The measuring thing isn’t at all accurate in my experience.

Thank you so much, the scan is tomorrow. I am carrying small, thank you for letting me know your experience xx

Perhaps they are waiting for 28 weeks, please don’t worry either xx

This happened to me and I’m not small at all - just have tight abs. Baby was measuring fine in the ultrasound.

Woodcottage1 · 19/08/2020 12:16

Thank you so much, my bump does appear small, I’m not going to panic and see what the scan says. Thank you very much for letting me know your experience x

Babies can just be small so don’t worry OP. My first was 2nd-9th percentile, he was 6lb2 and my 2nd was 0.04 percentile and 5lb8.
I just have small babies! I’m slim and they are both on the dinkier side growing up too.

My scans were very accurate (had them every 2 weeks with both) and the predicted weight they said was the weight that they were both born.

I saw it as an extra opportunity to see DC without having to pay for a scan!!

Woodcottage1 · 19/08/2020 12:22

Thank you so much xx

It's the most ridiculous way of measuring baby but the most cost effective rather than lots of scans. It's open to human error, baby moving position etc. I had the same with both of mine. I was worried going to the scan with the first baby but everything was fine. I hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

user1493413286 · 19/08/2020 12:26

I measured small in both my pregnancies but both babies were a good size. It was just how I carried and I was told the way they measure by hand is notoriously unreliable

Spark27 · 19/08/2020 13:14

My fundal measurements put my on the 10th centile at 28w. I had a private scan at 32+2 and baby was measuring at 4lbs 8oz, so a good weight around the 50th centile. Fundal measurements are notoriously difficult and can vary on one lady with different mws doing them. Even growth scans have a margin of error.

My DD always measured small and was born at 38+4 and was just under 7lbs x

EllieJai44 · 19/08/2020 13:17

I had this happen at 34 weeks, my bump hadn't grown from 30 weeks to 34 weeks so got sent for a scan and baby actually measured small for gestation, ended up being induced at 37 weeks but she came out weighing 6lb 11oz so actually not so small!

I didn't seem to have a small bump but I started off with a belly from being overweight, good luck for tomorrow!

Ang3113 · 19/08/2020 13:20

Hi. similar to others. Bump was on the 10th percentile at 36 weeks so sent for a scan and was told growth was on the 47th percentile. I know it's hard not to worry, but I think the scans are more reliable.

Woodcottage1 · 19/08/2020 13:33

Thank you so much, that’s really interesting, as I also had a belly from my two Ivf treatments in 7 months up to the pregnancy and I’d been put on steroids. I actually can’t believe how little weight I’ve put on so far in comparison to ivf weight and steroid weight. Thank you for your experience and to everyone else who has taken the time to message xx

I had a growth scan yesterday at 34 weeks after measure small at my midwife appointment 2 weeks ago. Baby is measuring small and is on the 10th percentile. I've to have weekly scans now but I think as long as baby follows their own little curve and doesn't fall under this then everything will be ok. I'm carrying small too but I think some women will just have small babies, it doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem.

Lexi92 · 20/08/2020 08:33

Good luck with your scan today op xx

Superscientist · 20/08/2020 09:44

I measured on the 10th percentile all the way through, I wasn't sent for growth scans but she was born weighing 6lb 13lb 8 days early which put her on the} 61st percentile! My wee little bump was clearly all baby!

Changedmynamelots · 20/08/2020 12:50

How was your scan op? Xx

Woodcottage1 · 20/08/2020 19:27

Honestly thank you so much to everyone for your messages and support. My scan showed baby is 52 percentile, completely middle range. Thank you for your support xx
