Loss of a twin at early scan

Having an emotional rollercoaster of a week. Had an emergency scan last Friday due to slight bleeding. This is my first pregnancy -was told it was twins, both had heartbeats and everything was ok.

Then had private scan today so husband could come with me (corona meant he couldn’t come last week) and only one had a heartbeat and the second hadn’t grown from last week.... now we’re in limbo as the hospital still won’t see me until my 12 week scan! (Currently 9 weeks) Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does this mean the worst?

Didn't want to read and run... I am so sorry.

Depends what you mean by ‘the worst’ , if you mean will you lose the second one then the answer is absolutely not necessarily. We miscarried a twin at 12 weeks and were amazed that the other one managed to hang in there but he’s 27 now . Sorry for your loss but I think it is quite a common occurrence so there’s every reason to feel positive for the remaining twin .Best wishes .

Not at all. Google disappearing twin syndrome.

Had the same with my 4th pregnancy but no bleeding and I’m currently attempting to feed twin 1 to sleep. It was my only pregnancy without bleeding. I had a scan at 7 weeks and twin 1 had good heart beat. Twin two also had a good heart beat but measured smaller. Because it was a week before Christmas I had to wait two weeks to be scanned again. They said it was mostly likely twin two would stop growing, then shrink and be re absorbed by the body. At the second scan twin 1 was growing but but twin 2 heart beat had gone.

So sorry xx

I have 2 adult friends who were the surviving twin so hope your twin 1 makes it x

Thanks everyone. I just don’t know what to think. Trying to stay positive that one is doing ok but just stuck playing the waiting game until the hospital will see me

Even if the hospital could see you earlier then wouldn’t be able to tell you what will happen. You will just have to wait a bit an see.

Which baby scan company did you use? We were given a free second scan as we have booked a viability scan and they couldn’t answer the question yet as to if the baby/babies were viable.

@Lockdownseperation I think I just want the hospital to confirm what the private scan has said. Since it was the hospital who originally said there were two with good heartbeats. It was ‘Ultrasound direct’ and she was really nice but never offered another scan
