Any positive sweep stories at 38 weeks?

Went to the hospital today to discuss an induction due to medical reasons and I got offered a membrane sweep which I've never had before. I've been scheduled for an induction on thursday night and i opted to get the sweep done today. I've had some light bleeding and cramping since but nothing too painful. Just wondering how effective a sweep can be, baby has been very active since. I was also 1cm dilated and she said his head was really low down.

Hey Op. mine was successful! I had a sweep at 37 weeks in preparation for an induction a few days later. I had the sweep at about 11am and she arrived the next day. I was in active labour by about 11pm and hospital by 1am then she came about 7am.

Her head was really low down too, I had light bleeding and cramping and it just continued through the night.

Fingers crossed for you!

No- I had lot of sweeps with both of mine...

BUT I had 2 very successful inductions, if that gives you some comfort? First was with pessary which led to a 'natural' water birth. Second was with drip and epidural (a wonderful experience with no pain Grin)

I share this as people always share the horror stories and never the nice ones

Ooh, good luck op.
I had sweeps from 38 weeks with dc2 but she wasn't born till 40 +3 but it was following my 3rd sweep.
I know I will be offered sweeps this time for medical reasons (I will be induced at 40 weeks if they don't work) but as this us dc4 I'm hoping my body might finally know what to do Grin

Thank you for the replies, the cramping has calmed down but I woke up to some light bleeding and my pajama bottoms are pretty damp so i dont know if my waters are trickling. I guess I'll crack on and get babies things set up today in the livingroom and with a bit of luck things get moving. I'd much rather it all started natural at home before Thursday

Good luck OP. After my successful sweep my waters went as a constant trickle for around 6 hours before contractions started properly. X

I had a sweep at 38 weeks and was told my cervix was favourable. I had a couple then was induced at 39 weeks but I only needed the pessary to get things going rather than the drip and didn’t need my waters to be broken. My midwife thought the sweeps helped move things along so by the time induction came I only needed very little in terms of the actual induction.

Grumpy19 · 12/08/2020 22:12

@WeeDinah how are things going?

I'm 17 weeks so quite a long way still to go for me. X

WeeDinah · 13/08/2020 06:28

@mammapenguin20 aww brilliant, congratulations 🥰 Everything stopped with me yesterday but I'm going in to be induced tonight xx

@Nov19 I'm hoping for the same, I really hope the sweep has worked for me also. I got my Hope's up thinking it would start naturally at home after the sweep but I'll also be happy if the same happened for me at the hospital without too much intervention

@Grumpy19 I worked all day yesterday, cleaning windows, dusting ect but it all stopped early afternoon. I'm going to have an easy day today and relax, I'm going into hospital at 8PM tonight so I could possibly be up all night.

17 weeks 🥰 it will fly past, my pregnancy has gone so fast this time.

I found it a little disheartening when the sweeps hadn’t made me go into labour as I wanted to avoid induction. When I got there the pessary fell out after about an hour and a half and I still went into labour before it was properly inserted back in. It was put in at about 10pm then by 1am I started to get contractions and was moved to delivery suite at 3am. My baby was born at 7.40! It was all very quick with no intervention after the pessary. Like you I was 1cm and baby’s head was really low so hopefully things will get going for you quickly! Good luck!

WeeDinah · 13/08/2020 10:01

@Nov19 I really hope so, this is my 3rd baby. My boys are 17 and 19 so it's been a while. Was this your first baby? Its would be nice to see him at some point tomorrow, I had to get the drip with my first born but his heart rate kept dropping. I was in labour for days so I'm really hoping to avoid it all. My 2and born was only a 4 hour labour with no complications, I went into labour on my own.

Hes my 2nd but with my first I had a really long labour. I went into labour naturally with my first but then ended up needing the drip at the end because it stopped so I wasn’t expecting to labour so well with my second.
