Additional growth scans (high BMI) cancelled

Hi :)

My BMI at booking in was 35.1 and consequently I am now consultant led. I also had a nasty third degree tear whilst giving birth to my DS so am also consultant led for this reason.

My midwife said that due to my increased BMI I would be offered multiple growth scans in my third trimester (approx 4 in total.) Following my 12 week scan I had a very brief phone appointment with a consultant who said that due to Covid 3/4 of my growth scans wouldn’t take place and I’d just have one at 36 weeks. I accepted this no questions at the time given the risks around Covid and NHS pressures.

I’m just feeling quite anxious that clearly those growth scans are recommended for a reason and we might miss something essential now they aren’t going ahead. I’ve been debating paying for some private ones but financially that’s not ideal.

I go back and forth between thinking it’s fine but then also worrying that if something bad happens I won’t forgive myself for not pushing at least for one extra one. I’m in a very low Covid area by the way (zero new cases in last 10 days but appreciate that can change at any point.)

What would you all do?

Hi OP I'm consultant led , my bmi is 43 and I'm currently 36 and 5 weeks , I've had all my growth scans after being told they would be cancelled due to COVID so I would ring and double check with your trust in case they've reintroduced them. I also have had private scans and my clinic did bundles of 4 for £99 not ideal but was always an option

Oh that’s really good to know thank you! I’ll call the medical secretary tomorrow and see if I can get some/all reinstated. If not then I think I’ll just have to go privately for my own peace of mind.
