Hi ladies
I took my daily vitamin just before breakfast as I had forgotten to take it the night before with my main meal, and then spent 2 hours with quite violent vomiting (sorry for the TMI)
I’m in my second trimester so was quite surprised to be so unwell.
Is this a normal reaction??

Yeh. I vommed taking pregnacare on an empty stomach and then just switched to folic acid and vitamin d from boots

Bearcub01 · 07/08/2020 12:49

Hi, I’m currently in hospital as I had been non stop vomiting the past few days. The nurse asked if I had been taking any pregnancy vitamins as they usually cause sickness but I hadn’t.

annlee3817 · 07/08/2020 12:54

Yes when I had pregnacare, was fine once off them

wrensandrobins · 07/08/2020 12:58

Yep literally this morning- swapped brand, normally take on an empty stomach, this brand did not agree with that! I was fine once I ate a crumpet!

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 07/08/2020 13:01

Yep, pregnacare in particular made me feel very ill. I switched to taking individual folic acid and vitamin d pills and it helped enormously.

KitKatKit · 07/08/2020 13:03

Pregnacare did not suit me. It triggered migraines and made me sick as anything. I was fine once I moved to Seven Seas.

doodlejump1980 · 07/08/2020 13:05

Yup. Stopping vomiting when I stopped taking them. They did weird things to my stomach too.

hummingbirdhm · 07/08/2020 13:10

Oh thanks so much all! Yes this was pregnacare too!! I think I’ll swap brands as I can’t face taking those again!

Hey pregnacare has never made me feel good. I'm 23 weeks now and I just take an oral spray or vitamin D and B12 and then folic acid on its own. Still get morning sickness but taking those vitamins definitely help with the nausea.

peachypetite · 07/08/2020 13:13

Just realised you’re in the second trimester now. If you’re eating a balanced diet all you need is vitamin d now and there’s plenty of sun!

hummingbirdhm · 07/08/2020 18:45

@peachypetite really? The pregnacare box says it’s for all of pregnancy? I’m new to this!
I’m a veggie so perhaps I should take it to get the right balance.

Yes on pregnacare, changed to boots own brand and was fine!

peachypetite · 07/08/2020 19:02

@hummingbirdhm, pregnacare is marketed to pregnant women but it isn’t essential. Women often take the multivitamin in the first trimester when they are too nauseous to eat but by second it isn’t necessary. Have you had blood results back? That would indicate if you needed further supplements

I'm currently taking pregnacare, it made me sick in my first trimester if I took it on an empty stomach in the mornings or before lunch if I hadn't eaten in a few hours, and also if I took it in the evening before bed (when I would forget to take it in the day!) I would be quite sick the next morning.

A colleague recommended that I start taking it halfway through eating my lunch as food helps to digest it and haven't had any issue since Smile
