Hi all,

18+1 today, this is my first pregnancy. For the past week or so I've been feeling what I think is the baby moving, almost feels like little pokes, mostly just above my pubic bone, but sometimes higher. I've not been sure though, thinking it could just be gas.

Yesterday it was really warm so I decided I'd strip down to my underwear and read while having a little lie down on the bed. I could feel these little movements again but still wasn't sure it was baby, then there was the strongest feeling yet and I SAW my belly bulge. It was exactly as if someone had taken there thumb and pushed up under my skin. Almost a bit creepy honestly! It was about an inch below and to the right of my belly button. It happened twice in quick succession then nothing.

Was it the baby!? I think it must be but I can't shake the feeling that it might have just been a gas bubble moving because I'm only 18 weeks. I wasn't really expecting to even feel anything at this stage, let alone see it.

Don't know if it matters but I'm of medium height and quite slim, wore size 8-10 pre-pregnancy.

Yes it could be.
Everyone is different.

I'm 18+5 and for the past week I've been feeling really strong movements. I'm a FTM too so I was sceptical but there is no mistaking these movements it's like a little party going on in there.

Thanks all! It just seems so early that it's hard to believe. I was told with a first pregnancy especially that you shouldn't really expect much before 22 weeks, and not having experienced it before it's hard to know the difference between movements and gas...

Thanks for the replies xx

I felt and saw great big thumps when I was 20 weeks that made my tummy bulge, and I am most definitely not quite slim so the movement managed to get all the way through my layers of blubber so it definitely could've been for you.

I also felt a bit weird by it at first and didn't really like it, but now that baby is a bit bigger and my uterus has moved higher up I quite like them. Except when it's right on my bladder and I feel like I'm about to have a wee, or so low down it feels like a foot is about to break through my cervix. But apart from that it's nice!

It could be! From about 19 weeks (first baby) I could see my tummy bulging and sort of twitching.

Ftm also and size 10 - I was 18+2 when I first felt a kick with my hand on my tummy, then 19+3 when DH felt one. I didn't see anything until a few weeks later maybe around 21 weeks or so but don't see why it wouldn't be possible! Especially as you're slim anyway 😊 Now at 26 weeks my belly jumps all over the place and looks like baby is having a party in there, especially when I'm in the bath 🤣

I felt strong movements from 17 weeks with my first baby. Can’t remember when they were visible on the outside but this time round they definitely were (and I have an anterior placenta which is supposedly cushioning them), so yes, definitely possible.
