Carpal tunnel syndrome

Morning ladies!
I'm 32+3 weeks and as of last week (ish) I started getting pins and needles in my hands through my arms and in the bottom of my feet.
I'm waking up in the morning with my fingers really numb and I'm struggling to grip anything, on top of slight swelling in my hands and feet (the heat obviously doesn't help!).
MW said that it's carpal tunnel syndrome and that it's quite normal and will go away after baby is born.
Just wondering if anyone has or is suffering with this? It's not painful just annoying!

Yes this and last pregnancy, started 33/34 weeks and did go away after birth. First pregnancy I used to run my hands under hot water to loosen them out in morning and also wore a splint supprt thing at night, this pregnancy my toddler is in my bed first thing demanding attention, wanting lifted etc so I find I just have to push through the pain and after a few hrs it loosens out. My hands and legs/ feet are very swollen and will likely continue to be until a week or two after birth like last time. Xx

I have rheumatoid arthritis so get carpal tunnel; now 11 weeks and my right wrist has had on/off swelling and carpal tunnel type pain. Best thing for me is splints! Can wear them at night but for me it helps to wear with work (I do a lot of typing) and for driving/lifting to just support the wrist and lessens pain!

Yep I have it, currently 36 weeks pregnant. Fortunately it's only really on one hand for me but it's still very annoying! I've just bought a splint which will hopefully help, especially overnight when it seems to be worst.

Thanks ladies! I may get myself some wrist splints then as I'm office/ home office based and type a lot too!
Glad it's not just me! 😬

I had this with my last pregnancy in the third trimester. So did my dsis. Our local hospital supplied our splints (and made sure they were the correct size and fit) in their ante natal clinic.
I found a hankie along the gap where the Velcro fastened stopped them irritating my skin.
Went away as soon as baby arrived.

I had this with my DD towards the end of pregnancy. I found it really painful. It did eventually go but not straight after I had her and I found it hard to hold her. Hopefully yours will go as soon as baby is here.

I had it after dd was born and it drove me crazy. I wore splints at night time which did help. It went away after a couple of months.

Hi OP! Currently 30 weeks and been suffering severely since week 26! I’ve tried splints to help support my wrists at night but not really doing much. When it gets very painful use an ice pack on your wrists to try and reduce swelling. Otherwise, like MW said we have to live with it until baby is here! I’m getting used to the constant pins and needles now, it’s just the numbness when I wake up that I find painful!

lockdownpregnancy · 05/08/2020 11:40

@Alychloe it's the numbness that's really irritating.
I tried to pick up my bowl of cereal this morning and just had this weird pain all the way from my wrist up my arm!
Bloody nightmare eh!
I've ordered some splints for my wrists off amazon, as I can't be arsed to try and get some via the hospital! 😂
I wouldn't class mine as severe so I'm hoping a big standard splint will do the trick, but if it gets too much I'll speak to my GP

I suffered from it in my last pregnancy. By the end of my pregnancy it was painful though . My midwife referred to a specialist but they never back to me . Ridiculous. I bought wrist guard and that helped. It went away immediately after I gave birth .

Indigogirl88 · 05/08/2020 17:21

Snap, had it since around week 20, really painful and probably the worst pregnancy complaint from me tbh! First time mum, didn't expect this hehe. Heres to hoping it goes after birth! X

lockdownpregnancy · 05/08/2020 20:02

@Indigogirl88 it's the only 'major' thing I've had so far tbf! I've done so well up until now!
I had a funny feeling my third trimester might be challenging!
As you all said, fingers crossed it goes or does go after birth! 🤞
