Hi all,

I had an early scan yesterday expecting to be around 7 weeks unfortunately nothing could be seen and had to have a vaginal
Scan, womb looked as it should but baby was measuring so small she struggled to confirm dates.

They seemed to be scrunched in a corner my only glimmer of hope was that she observed a small flicker and I did see this too and my notes say there was foetal pole measuring 1mm. She suggested that this seemed like early pregnancy and advised me to come back next week.

The sonographer didn’t seem
To think I was six weeks as yet, I wonder if it’s possible I am two weeks behind where I thought I was.

any help or experience would be lovely as I’ve a whole week of worrying about what will happen to go xx

Yes, this is common early on as you could have ovulated later than you thought.

If you saw a flicker, that is likely heartbeat which is usually seen 6w+.

But the measurement of 1mm makes me think more like 5 weeks. Could have also been an awkward angle. If you imagine trying to measure something that miniscule, it's not easy.

Sorry it's not a definitive answer - I would try to plan distracting things for the week and not focus on potential pregnancy, only to avoid alcohol etc.

@BertieBotts thanks so much for your reply yes I’ve tried to google 1mm foetal poles and it seems to suggest 1mm a day from six weeks but they seemed almost scrunched up in a corner x

Yes me, I went for an early scan with DS1 was meant to be 7 weeks but baby only measured 5w5d he was measuring 13 days behind, he just looked like a little dot on the screen with a flickering heartbeat, it took the scan lady around 20 minutes to find him. By the time my 12 week NHS scan came around he'd caught up by 8 days. Scans before 12 weeks arent all that accurate, babies develop at their own rate in the first trimester but most have caught up to where they should be by 12 weeks x
