So I went to my drs today and it's a 10 minute drive - my car has no air con it's 35 degrees and I've got my mask on when I get out the car. The lady scanning temps at the door said I was 39.1!!!! She said stand outside in the shade and after 60 seconds she did it again... 38.2!! She told me to wait inside where it's cooler and it was then 37!! Normally I'm like 36.6? Surely my temp wasn't 39.1 and if it was would it harm the baby? I'm 20+4 and was at drs for whooping cough injection xx

Was it one of those contactless thermometers? They only check the temperature on the very surface of the skin, which of course will be hot if your body is trying to get rid of heat. Don’t worry about it. Your core body temperature would have been lower.

Thanks for your reply @RowboatsinDisguise yes it was one of those gun looking testers xxxx

That would have been skin surface temperature, your core body temperature (and therefore baby) would have been lower. Nothing to worry about.

Hey @AliSxo I didn't have such a high temperature as you but I had a similar experience yesterday. Raced to an appointment, didn't turn the air conditioning on in the car and then was turned away because of a high temperature. I was called back in about five minutes later and was now within range. They then took my temp a second time because they were surprised it had gone down a degree in such a short time frame!
I think it depends on the angle etc they're pointing the thermometer at - though it must be said I have absolutely no scientific knowledge or expertise to back up my theory!

AliSxo · 31/07/2020 18:25

Thanks @RunningFromInsanity much more reassured to know it's not my core body temp and it's just the forehead temperature xxxxx

@Wellimworriednow my sister is a dr and she's said they're not always accurate and they'll take in the air temperature which is obviously roasting, she said if my temp was 39.1 and then went to 37 I'd need medication it wouldn't naturally drop in 60 seconds xxxx

DH has his temp red at work. He's a chef standing in front of a hot stove and it is regularly high. 10 mins to cool down and he's fine. It seems to be a surface temp plus I think if you were running at 39 degrees you wouldn't feel well.

FirstTimeBumps · 31/07/2020 19:26

I was turned away from a restaurant today for this same reason. Contactless thermometers are no good!

AliSxo · 31/07/2020 22:40

Thanks for your replies @FirstTimeBumps @mylittlesandwich xx been fine all evening I took my temp and I'm 36.8 which I'm fine with, how annoying to be turned away by a restaurant I can see why they do the checks it's just not ideal on a hot day!! Xx

DD1 had to have her temperature taken at school. All the children travel by car/minibus (special school). They had to make them all stand beside their cars for a few minutes because they all had temperatures that were too high from sitting in the car, waiting.
