Tog weights for newborn grobag

Hi all

Baby is due in October and I've been told the swaddle grobags are great! But I just don't know what tog to get!?

I was thinking 1x 2.5tog and 1 x 1tog. I was going to get 2 x 2.5togs as she'll be born in October and assuming the weather will be a bit cooler but who knows at that point!?

Any advise would be great

Thanks!

Mine was born in October and I never used the 1.5 tog a handful of times. Just used the 2.5togs until April time when she outgrew it anyway then switched to thinner. The room was kept at 18/19 degrees at night

@PrayingandHoping thank you! I might just get a couple of 2.5 togs then

It's just all mind blowing

Unless your house is very warm overnight then 2.5 will be fine

I'm due 1st Nov and went for 2 x 2.5 tog

Spent ages researching this stuff...need a manual for all the options!

I think I will have earned a degree by the time I give birth understanding it all, then my masters in the first year! I was trying to work out same thing, live in a colder house in the deepest darkest north.

I’d get a 1 tog too; our house is often quite warm at the point a baby is going to bed so I’d often put either of my DC in a 1 tog bag at 7.30 then into the 2.5tog later on in the night: with the 1 tog one you can anyways layer up under the gro bag.

Hahaha I know right!!?? There's just so much to consider and I have no idea where to start for most things!

My LO was born in november and we didn't use a tog bag. She wore a vest, baby grow and a small blanket with holes in. Personally I think tog bags are too big for new born babies

PregnantAndTiredMum · 31/07/2020 08:23

@LaurenSarah22 you can get bags specifically for new born babies. Obviously you should always check the weight range and also look at the fit yourself though.

2.5tog will probably be fine for October. You can adjust clothing if weather is warmer or cooler. You can get larger sized 1tog bags when the weather warms up

SandyDanny · 31/07/2020 10:43

I had an October baby and only needed a 2.5 tog swaddle Grobag.

GetTheSprinkles · 31/07/2020 10:47

Defo get more than 1 as there may be spit up/blow outs etc. in the middle of the night so you'll want to quickly replace the sleeping bag.
We used 2.5 lots for our November baby. Hardly used the lighter ones as when it was warmer we felt he didn't need a sleeping bag as well as vest/onesie and during the really hot nights often just needed a nappy!

I had a november baby. I got 2x 2.5 tog but baby was 3m old before he got in it! They have to be a certain weight. I would recommend a grosnug or a love to dream swaddle bag for newborns.

I've got 2.5 tog for our baby due in October. You can then vary the clothing items they are wearing underneath it to suit the temperature at the time.
