Hi there, can someone please tell me everything is going to be ok? I was reffered quite late in my pregnancy and as a result my scan is booked for next week (I'm 12 weeks) yesterday I went to the loo and wiped and had Brown discharge, later on I noticed a small amount of pink and red blood however it was a very small amount it has stopped now and I'm just getting the brown discharge however I am now freaking out thinking something is wrong. I went to a and e and they diagnosed me with a uti so could this have caused the small amount of blood? I have rung so many different triages etc but they don't seem overly concerned and won't examine me until next week, help!

Don’t panic! This is super common, though annoyingly very little spoken about, lots of mums bleed while pregnant then have healthy babies.
I had about a heavy period of blood with DS who is now 3. This pregnancy I had a hush of bright red blood with large lumps (about a half pint) and the scans have shown the baby is happily in there still at 16 weeks. Sometimes there’s a blood clot that gets dislodged or your cervix gets irritated. There are monthly due date groups on MN. Might be worth joining the one for feb and seeing other people’s experiences. X

I have just had some bright red blood through today, I have to wait until Tuesday to get scanned 😭😭 I'm terrified something is wrong :(

Bleeding is really common in pregnancy and can happen for lots of different reasons. I completely get your anxiety over this though, I'm currently 16+4 and I had a small bleed last week. Please remember bleeding doesn't always mean the worst and I know it's so much easier said than done, but try not to panic.

I wasn't bleeding heavily enough for my A&E department to scan me and was told to come back if it got worse (I guess it's all a bit different with covid, as they said under normal circumstances they would just scan me). I booked a private scan for the following day to help put my mind at ease as my next scan isn't until end of Aug - everything was all fine.

If you feel like you will be unable to wait until your 12 week scan, could a private scan be an option for you?

Thankyou all for your messages, I looked in to private scanning but all of the ones near me are fully booked until mid August so it looks like I'm gonna have to wait it out until Tuesday:(

@Carcarcarcar oh no Sad

It might not be helpful, but distraction for me I find really helps. Whether it's watching a movie, reading a book, calling a friend for a chat. Anything that passes chunks of time and means I can temporarily take my mind off of what's worrying me helps. Tuesday will come round before you know it, I hope your 12 week scan goes well x

Don't panic. When if happened to me they found that the bleeding was caused by my fibroids being squashed by the growing foetus. Fingers crossed for you.

I've no idea if a uti could cause bleeding and I have a suspected bout of thrush so am using canesten cream aswell, an ideas if any of this could cause bleeding? Thankyou for your kind words I shall keep this thread updated x

I had some bleeding on Thursday after going to the loo. Bright red and filled the tissue when I wiped, throughout the day after that I had some brown spotting. I called the GP and she referred me to the EPU for an early scan. All is well and the little bean was in the right place with a nice heartbeat. I’m only 6+2. I’ve googled loads and it’s pretty common to have some bleeding as long as it’s not getting heavier and with cramping it’s probably nothing to worry about.

Carcarcarcar · 01/08/2020 21:58

It started as brown discharge then a bit of red mixed with brown and now it's on off bleeding, not alot, not enough to fill a pad but a bit more than spotting if that makes sense, I have a dull ache but nothing painful

With a miscarriage there is a significant amount of blood (more than a heavy period) and cramps are strong and very painful. This is quite different to what you’ve experienced. Really hoping you’re ok.

I know it's so hard to wait and easier said than done - but try not to worry, If it was something serious you would really know about it at 12 weeks. I had a mc at 12 weeks earlier this year and it was a horrific amount of blood loss, going through a pad around every 20-30 minutes. A small amount of blood can be very normal in pregnancy. Good luck x

Carcarcarcar · 02/08/2020 12:53

@littlebrownbaby This is going to sound really awful so please don't answer if you don't want to, how long does it take to miscarry? Did the bleeding get heavy immediately or did it build up to it over a period of time? Thanks again x

Mine was fast. A large hush of bright red blood, about half a pint in a couple of minutes plus included what had obviously been a fetus.

ivfdreaming · 02/08/2020 17:00

I unfortunately had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and it started with brown spotting on the Friday which over a weekend led to red bleeding - not much but more than spotting. Had scan and no heartbeat identified - then had full blown miscarriage on the Following Friday - which I'd say took 12 hours to pass everything so a week in total x

Carcarcarcar · 03/08/2020 12:10

Just thought I'd update, went for an early scan today, scan shows a sac equivalent to 4 to 5 weeks gestation so well behind, didn't rule out miscarriage but said it's probable, I have to be be scanned in a week
