Hi

When will you guys inform your employers your pregnant?

I am 14 weeks, I haven't told them yet I am currently working from home due to the pandemic.

I wanted to wait until I've had my first scan before I told anyone and now I have low Papp-a I'm not sure when to tell my employer whether to wait until my next scan.

I know legally you have to tell them 15 weeks before your due date to receive maternity pay. I am just afraid I haven't told them yet and they may now be offended I didn't tell them sooner.

I would tell them after your 12 week scan . If anything goes wrong you will likely need time off work and will end up telling them anyway .

I haven’t told my employer yet and am 14 weeks. A combination of not having my scan till 13 weeks and my boss being on holiday. Will be 14+5 when I do tell him and don’t expect him to be offended as like you say I don’t have to tell them till I’m 25weeks!

As soon you tell them you are protected by law, so in many ways, the earlier the better.

Also, if there's any issues, it might be best they know now so you can have time off without issue.

I told mines around 10 weeks.
Like pp said you are better protected the earlier you tell them.
If anything had gone wrong I would have had to tell them anyway so thought I was probably just best telling them then.

I told my work at around 15 weeks, they turned around and said that they don't have to do anything until 25 weeks so remind them then but they will do a risk assessment (they never did a risk assessment and lockdown started at 25 weeks so I've been WFH since!)

I won't be telling mine formerly until the latest possible date - couple of reasons really

  • I work in a wry male dominated industry where women are still very much frowned upon
  • my company has already been through one round of redundancies and I know my role could be at risk in another round
  • I've previously had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and a friend of mine had to terminate for medical reasons at 16 weeks

I told my boss as soon as I found out, at about five weeks. But I have a great relationship with him. I formally told work (ie his boss and HR) at about 14/15 weeks and my colleagues at about 18/19 weeks when I couldn't hide it anymore. I'd hoped to get past the anomaly scan before it was really public knowledge but my body didn't cooperate.

kate909 · 26/07/2020 20:06

I told mine at 24 weeks! It's whenever you feel comfortable and ready to 😊

Bearcub01 · 26/07/2020 20:12

I’m still furloughed until the end of August at least. I have my 12 week scan on the 2nd September so imagine I’d probably be back at work that week so may aswell tell them as soon as I’m back.

Danielle95lab · 26/07/2020 20:57

I have low papp-a too so I was worried about telling anyone too early. I left it until after my 20 week anomaly scan. But it really doesn't make much difference. Do whatever you feel comfortable with x

New2020 · 26/07/2020 20:59

I told mine at 3 months as I had really bad sickness.

They were quite rubbish and didn't do a risk assessment until 25 weeks though they should have done it sooner!

Check the mat policy...I technically didn't have to let HR know until 15 weeks before my due date
