Constipated and gush of water

Hi, this is TMI but need some advice I'm 19 weeks, 20 tomorrow, and today needed to poop, it was a big poo and I was a bit constipated so had to really push. I'd already wee'd before I began pooing and then as it was a real push to get the poo out I felt water which I'm assuming is urine also coming out but as I was really having to push my poo it did feel like a big gush of water and I'm worried my waters broke? I also had some blood when I wiped which I'm pretty sure was from my poo not my vagina. I've got no pains no cramps etc, what should I do? I'm guessing pushing to poo also caused my bladder just to squeeze any urine out too? Xx

It was probably urine and it's highly unlikely you made your water break at 19 weeks.
However, I'm no doctor so might be worth having a chat with the MAU and see what they say.
They may have you in to do a couple tests to
make sure it's not your waters.
I'm sure you're fine but your going to continue to worry if you don't give them a call.

Thanks I've called them and they said put a pad on and see how dry it is over the evening and call them back if it's damp x

When your waters break it continues leaking!!! I was actually surprised by this myself and even though my waters broke before I started contractions, I was leaking out water my entire labour .

Put a pad on and see if any waters leak !! I’m sure it’s fine . I bleed after a big poo too 😩

It was probably wee. Constipation does this to me since kids too!

If it's waters I agree, they keep leaking. It would not just be a one time thing. You would notice.

My hind waters went at 27 weeks with my first daughter, it was fobbed off as urine. It was one fish and didn’t continue to leak. As a result I was induced at 37 weeks when they realised that I had no hind waters and my daughter was put straight onto an antibiotic drip. It’s always best to get checked out.

That was meant to say gush not fish 😂

I've had a pad on and it's dry, my 20 week scan is tomorrow so they'll spot if something isn't right but fingers crossed all is well with baby!! Have felt fine since but glad I called them xx

The exact same thing happened to me! This has been the first time I've ever read anything similar online so glad I wasn't the only one. I was 32 weeks and ridiculously constipated. About 10mins after a poo (lots of straining) I stood up and felt a gush, exactly like when water accidentally gets inside your ladybits in a pool or hot-tub. It did not feel like pee at all, and I had zero incontinence problems during pregnancy.

Went to the toilet and there was also a bit of blood and mucus when wiping. Was definitely not blood from haemorrhoids because I could see the difference in distance on the toilet paper. Obviously DH and I dropped everything and headed straight to the hospital. They had a swab test that can tell if it's amniotic fluid and it came back negative which was a relief. I didn't have any more leakage and baby came out perfectly healthy on term.

However to this day I'm still a bit mystified because it felt so unlike pee and genuinely felt like it came from the vagina. It also didn't explain why there was a tiny bit of blood mixed in (didn't have an UTI either). I read that there can be very tiny hind-water leaks where the sac heals itself. Other than that it was just a random "one of those things" from pregnancy.

Best of luck on your 20 week scan and I'm sure everything will be just fine :)

Just a word of advice on the constipation issue....be very careful about straining to that degree or you could end up with piles (which are awful but very common in pregnancy for this exact reason)

Thanks everyone, I have had some small dried blood on my knickers this morning - I don't usually sleep in pants but wanted to see if I leaked anymore fluid. I think it's from my bum as opposed to my vagina as my bum was still bleeding slightly last night when I Did my wee before bed xx

I’m glad your scan was all good @AliSxo

Now get on the stool softeners or it will only get worse! I’ve been taking laxido sachets, two a day since 18 weeks (34 now) to keep the constipation at bay.
