Early pregnancy cramps

Hi there,
I have recently found out I am pregnant and think I am around 5 weeks. Since conception, I have been having a dull pain on my left side, sometimes it moves to the right side but I can mostly feel it on the left. Sometimes I get pretty painful lower abdominal cramps which seem to pass after a few minutes. Can I just check this is normal? I have no bleeding or anything and feel okay apart from that - just didn’t expect to be so crampy! X

I cramped a lot in the early weeks, to the point where I was in agony around 7 weeks and ended up having a scan to make sure baby wasn't ectopic.
Now 30 weeks and baby is as happy as a clam to date 🥰
Cramping really is normal in the early weeks.
Unless it becomes unbearable or you start bleeding I would say you're ok, but if course speak with a MW or GP if you are really worried.
Congratulations on your pregnancy 🥰🥰

I had really bad cramps in the very early weeks to the point where one time I was doubled over in pain at work and had to go to the toilet to get away from everyone and to check I wasn’t bleeding. I didn’t see anyone about them as I just thought it was normal. Now 24 weeks and so far so good x

I tested positive the other day
I was so happy with the result as I have PCOS and have always assumed it wouldn't happen for me. I'm around 3 week, I thought I was getting my period because I was getting the same cramping, but no bleeding (even though I keep checking) the cramps don't stay long they are on and off but I have also been worried as I always just assume the worse. Been reading up on it people say it's just stretching. Hopefully my mind will be put at ease after seeing the mw in 3 weeks time.

Thank you so much for your replies - much appreciated! As this is my first pregnancy it’s good to get some reassurance to put my mind at rest. Thank you xx

I’m around 4.5 weeks and have been getting cramps and pulling pains if I turn or stand up to quickly. I am completely crapping myself. I’ve had few early loses so that’s not helping me

Sassy14 · 25/07/2020 05:33

@123jrb123 I remember experiencing loads of cramping especially in my left side throughout pregnancy. I just think it may be the uterus growing ready for baby Smile I'm now 37 weeks and everything is great with baby! If you're ever worried contact the midwife but cramping in pregnancy sounds normal to me! Xx

123jrb123 · 25/07/2020 07:59

@sassy14 Thanks for that! Good to know it was in your left side as well as that was worrying me a bit! Having said that, I woke up at 2am this morning and was very sick so guessing this might be the start for me! Hope everything is okay @2020wish I have been feeling cramps and pains for at least 2 weeks but starting to think it’s just everything growing Smile
Good luck everyone xx

Helenknowsbest · 25/07/2020 09:12

@123jrb123 yes perfectly normal. Im 6 weeks and still having cramps. Its all the ligaments/pelvis/uterus stretching. Smile

Babafarmer · 25/07/2020 11:45

Hi @123jrb123 I'm currently 6+6. I have been getting cramps since the beginning of week 4 and still get them now. Sometimes dull but sometimes like the worst period pain ever. I have also had sharp pains really low down kind of in my pubic area. I've had sharp pains through my back passage and in the vagina. These were sending my anxious mind into crazy thoughts made worse last weekend (5+6) when I could often pin point the pain to the right side which got worse when going to the toilet. I had a GP appointment and after she examined me she said all seemed ok. She could tell I wasn't reassured and still very anxious so she referred me for an early scan. I had that on Wednesday and I'm happy to say all of fine I was dated a couple of days out from what I thought but there was a yolk sac and heartbeat. So with me it's been ok but I never expected to have cramps so bad. Last night I had to go to bed in the hope I'd fall asleep and not feel them. I had been for a very long strenuous walk yesterday so maybe that made it worse.

Bearcub01 · 25/07/2020 12:13

@2020wish I’m the same! I don’t have any real symptoms that make me ‘feel’ pregnant so been wishing for sickness to come. I gagged a bit this morning after drinking water but that was it.
I’ve had cramping on and off, sometimes like period cramps but only lasts a few seconds then goes. It seems to happen more if I’ve been lying down or sitting down then move to a different position.
My boobs are tender but not as sore as they were, they seem to get softer during the night and I panic when I wake up and they’re not sore lol!!

Isthisfinallyit · 25/07/2020 12:15

I have had a lot of cramps in early pregnancy. Its normal they said.

2020wish · 25/07/2020 12:31

Bearcub01 · 25/07/2020 12:35

@2020wish my apps have me as 6+4 but I think I’m actually only 6weeks today.

HogDogKetchup · 25/07/2020 12:57

Your tummy has lots of stretching and expanding to do. Totally normal.

2020wish · 25/07/2020 18:01

Took a nap there and I’ve just woke up feeling like a train has run over me.... zero energy to more, hung Over and close to vomiting... wonder if that’s my sickness kicking in lol

Dramaofallama · 25/07/2020 18:37

Yep, pretty common it seems.

I had them through most of my first trimester, it felt like my period was due.

When I asked the midwife on my booking appointment she said it was normal and baby has to make room from somewhere.

My second trimester was more like stretching though, like I was getting a stitch.
